Heavy Loss in Tipton County (1866)

One night last week the large store house on McKenzie and McCloy situated at Mason’s Depot, on the Memphis and Ohio railroad, in the edge of Tipton county, was burned to the ground. The house was full of dry goods, groceries, wares, etc., all of which were totally lost. There was no insurance. The store was set on fire by a monomaniac, who frequently was allowed the privilege of visiting any portion of the house. The loss is estimated at no less than $20,000.
