Representative Samuel A. McElwee (R-Haywood County 1883-1889) — 6 Comments

  1. Very sad that Samuel A. Mcelwee first two children aren’t mentioned by name in history teachings from those two children a lot of grandchildren came to be his son by his first wife had 12 children. This is sad that history dosen’t tell the whole story if you read about Samuel Mcelwee when he married his second wife things was put in her name to protect his black family in Tennessee but this family is never mentioned in teachings I’m sure many of his great grandchildren are still living. Fisk used to honor Samuel but now, that most or all of his grandchildren are dead they don’t reach out anymore to the great grandchildren but their are many out there.

  2. This is very helpful i was born in Brownsville Tn and I never heard of this Man until now Thank you very much!!

  3. Hi Lukes I wish I new more. I know he is my great grandfather I had an uncle that told us stories about him. My father which was his youngest grandson from his oldest son Robert Mcelwee, never talked about his family much. I do know that he attended Fisk University and I know the school had reached out to my aunts and uncles at least once for an interview. I wish I new more about him I just really know the small amount you can find on the internet about him.

  4. He is my great grand father Robert McElwee was my grand father how are you related
