Nutbush is 12 miles west of Brownsville on Highway 19 toward Ripley in Lauderdale County. It is an old community, established in the early 1800’s by people from Virginia and North Carolina. At this time we have not located a list of the first settlers. Nut Bush is best known genealogically and historically for the cemetery at Trinity United Methodist Church, organized in 1822.   Photo gallery image of Charles M Delaney, born around 1865, died 7 Jan 1940 in his home 3 miles north of Brownsville. He had 2 sons, Joseph William Daniel Delaney and Johnny May Savaniel Delaney. Robert Bruce Saunders served in the Civil War from Haywood and was also in a Tennessee Mounted Infantry in the Mexican War.  He is also an ancestor of Brownsville resident Gene Campbell. R. B. Saunders was born in Virginia and moved to Tennessee in 1850 living there until 1874 when his family migrated to Texas.
