CAROLINA — Miss Ida COVINGTON, daughter of Richard COVINGTON of Durhamville is visiting Mrs. A. S. HIGGINS.
BELLS —
J. R. FARROW and J. B. PARKER have been selected delegates to the farmers convention in St. Louis.
Mrs. Arthur JENKINS is visiting her father, A. W. HAWKS in Alabama.
James T. CONNELL, an old ex-Confederate soldier, died a few days ago at his home west of Alamo. He requested that a Confederate flag be put in his coffin.
John Wess PEARSON and Miss Annie FREEMAN were married Sunday.
LOCAL NEWS —
Will SHAW has bought the E. H. TAYLOR place on East Main street; consideration, $2,500.
Dr. W. H. BAYNES and family of Nut Bush have moved to town and are occupying the old TUGWELL residence on East Main.
Mrs. Helen TAYLOR has sold to TAYLOR & BASKERVILLE mill and timbermen at Stanton, the timber on 1269 acres of bottom land lying south of the Hatchie River; consideration, $10,750.
Seven prisoners, led by Norville DISMORE, convicted of murdering his uncle and sentenced to 20 years, escaped the Shelby county jail Tuesday. Two of the escaped prisoners are white men.
LAST SUNDAY — week, young Martin HOPKINS, only son of Mr. John HOPKINS, was killed near his home in Osceola, Ark., by a horse he was riding stumbling and falling on him. The young man was born and reared in this county and was a grandson of Esq. HOPKINS of the eighth district.
LITTLE ROBERT LEE GREEN — aged three years, son of Mr. & Mrs. R. H. GREEN of Forked Deer departed this life September 4th, 1904. His remains were interred in the Tabernacle cemetery by the side of his grandparents, Dr. & Mrs. R. A. GREEN.
MR. ED WATSON — a respectable citizen and farmer of the Sixth District died at his home near Zion church last Tuesday and his remains were buried at the graveyard at Zion. He leaves a wife and one child.
BENJAMIN WADDY MORRISS — was born of Scotch-Irish parents in 1809, near Raleigh, N. C. He spent 95 years in N. C., Tenn., and Miss., and died August 29th, 1904, while visiting his daughter-in-law near Cheevy, Madison County, Tenn. He emigrated in early manhood to Williamson County, Tenn. where he married in 1834 to Miss Martha HORTON of the same county. Two sons and two daughters blessed this happy union, of whom Mrs. W. B. WINSTON, of Okmulgee, Indian Territory, and Mrs. M. C. SPAIN of Memphis, Tenn., are living to mourn the loss of a devoted Christian father. Bro. MORRISS was converted seventy years ago and joined Methodist Episcopal Church. Grandfather MORRISS was greatly loved by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to whom he gave a true and sincere love. Burial in Bond Graveyard near Denmark, Tennessee. H. B. TERRY, writer and officiating at funeral.

Attendents: Mr. Zana RAWLS and Miss Bessie CHANDLER, Mr. Ira BOREN and Miss Jennie WILLIAMS. Flower girls: Misses Mattie JOYNER and Birdie WHITE. Prof. THWEATT will teach at Providence school.
Miss Bessie FAIN is visiting St. Louis and the World’s Fair.
Mrs. H. H. DICKERSON and daughter, Miss Olive are attending the Fair.
Mrs. H. H. MOORE and son, Austin left Tuesday eve for St. Louis.
Mr. & Mrs. C. L. CARLTON are visiting the World’s Fair this week.
Miss Mary SEVIER has returned from a visit to her aunt, Mrs. J. P. COBB.
Mrs. L. P. McGEE left Monday for Hampton, Ala., where she will engage in teaching music.
L. B. OUTLAW of Graceland County, Texas after a visit here for six weeks has returned home.
Clyde CHAMBERS is in Nashville attending Droughon’s Business College.
Miss May HOLBROOK left for Bardstown, KY., where she will attend the noted Catholic school, Nazreth.
Mr. John T. GRAY and daughters, Misses Sallie and Mamie and sister Miss Sallie GRAY have returned from a week at the World’s Fair.
Mrs. Caroline BOND and Mrs. Charlie SMITH are visiting their kinswoman, Miss Carrie EVANS at the residence of Mrs. H. TURNER.
