DEATH OF ISAAC H. READ — The death at his home in this city on April 25th at 4 o’clock of Isaac H. READ, at the age of 70 years, removes from the sphere of life one of the most prominent citizens and best men that our county ever knew. Since early manhood, he had been a leader to every movement looking to the welfare of this and Lauderdale County, where for several years, he lived. Of the influential and wealthy READ family, who emigrated to this county from Virginia in the early 30’s, he was worthy of his ancestry and lived the life of useful industry and lofty ideal that he learned in childhood. In early life he married a Miss GREEN, a woman of great beauty, and they raised an extensive family of children, worthy of their parents and whose noble lives have been an honor to them. He was married three times and by the last union, he leaves four children, all minors, to mourn an untimely loss.
In religion, Mr. READ was a Presbyterian, as had been his family for generations. At the outbreak of the war, he entered the Army as Lieut. of the 7th Tenn. Cav., and laid down his arms when no other cause was left.
After the religious services conducted by Rev. C. O. N. MARTINDALE at the home, the remains were taken charge of by Hiram S. BRADFORD Bivouac, conveyed to Tabernacle church and laid to rest beside the loved ones who had gone before.
The following comrades, some of whom served under him in battle, participated in the beautiful service; J. A. WILDER; A. M. CARLTON; H. J. LIVINGSTON; C. H. JONES; I. B. MARTIN; Jno. R. GREEN; C. F.
