FORKED DEER —
MRS. T. J. ESCUE has the sympathy of the entire community in the death within two weeks of her husband and her son, Frank. Four of five more of the family are down.
H. M. HARDY’s and H. A. RAINEY’s families have been passing through the firey furnace. All of H. A. RAINEY’s family have been down, including his daughter and baby who came home to see to the sick. All of H. M. HARDY’s except himself and wife; his oldest son still very low, not able to be up at all and not likely to get any better.
LUTHER GARRETT, son-in-law of W. T. WELLS died on the 26th.
CAROLINA —
MR. JIM BINFORD and MISS MAGGIE FREEMAN were married Sunday.
The stork in his flight over Carolina last Friday night dropped a fine baby boy for Mr. & Mrs. A. S. WIGGINS.
SOLD OBSCENE PICTURES. RIPLEY, TENN. — WILLIAM REDMAN, a young white man, giving his residence as Muncie, Ind. has been arrested and placed in jail here on a charge of selling obscene pictures. He was taken in by Marshal T. B. PASCHEL of Henning, while attempting to dispose of his wares to school boys. REDMAN will be held pending the action of the grand jury. He has a record in Muncie, Ind., of petit larceny and grand larceny.
TRIBUTE OF RESPECT — The many friends of Mr. J. S. MARTIN and family were made sad by the death of the beloved wife and mother which occurred Saturday, February 27th, 1904 at the home near Danceyville. The remains were interred in Spring Hill Cemetery Sunday afternoon, February 28th.

JOHN PARKE — has a smile on his face a mile long. It’s a 16 pound boy. He was born on the mother’s birthday, February 29th.
MISS NERISSA N. RAGLAND — aged 56 years died at her home in Bartlett, Tenn. last Tuesday at 6 p. m. The deceased had many friends and relatives in this community.
FRANK LEIGH — for the past 35 years a drayman for various parties, died at his home here on Saturday last and was buried on Sunday. Uncle Frank was a “fo de war” darkey, who attended to his own affairs, worked at all times and commanded the respect and confidence of both races. In slave days he belonged to the elder Wm. R. LEIGH, father of Mrs. KILLEBREW and the present attorney, Wm. R. LEIGH.
MR. WILL BARNES — a well-known citizen and a saw mill man, residing six miles east of town, was shot five times and dangerously wounded by MR. H. E. WHITELAW on last Wednesday morning. It is generally thought a case of self-defense.
MRS. JOSEPHINE BARCROFT — wife of Mr. Will BARCROFT died at the home of her parents, Mr. & Mrs. A. H. KINNEY last Friday morning. Funeral Saturday conducted by Rev. H. B. JOHNSTON.
WE RECORD — with deep regret the death of MRS. NEPPIE TAYLOR, wife of Mr. Ed. H. TAYLOR at the family residence in this city last Tuesday morning. She was the mother of five who survive her; Henry & Harbert, who hold important and lucrative business positions in Memphis. The third son, E. H. Jr is with Hotchkiss Jewelry Co in this city; while the two daughters, Mary and Anne have been constant companions of the good mother in the family home. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery, Rev. H. B. JOHNSTON officiating.
MR. & MRS. S. BAUMAN — have issued invitations to the marriage of their daughter, ROSYE to MR. MAX KORNIK, of Memphis, Tenn., March 23, 1904.
AN UNEXPECTED — marriage took place at Sherman, Texas on Wednesday February 24th when MR. WALTER CHAMBERS and MISS MYRA ANDERSON, both of this city were united in the holy bonds of matrimony.

On Wednesday afternoon, Mrs. J. W. BROWN entertained in honor of Mrs. STERN of Hot Springs, Ark., and Mrs. GATES of Richmond, Va.
Mrs. J. D. CUMMINGS of Memphis attended the last illness and death of Mrs. E. H. TAYLOR.
Dr. & Mrs. W. W. TAYLOR of Memphis attended the burial here Monday of Mrs. E. H. TAYLOR.
E. M. JEFFRIES and C. S. WADDELL left Tuesday for Indian Territory where they expect to locate.
Mrs. P. R. HERBERT of Memphis and her daughters, Mrs. will CAMPBELL and Mrs. Sid READ were here to attend the funeral of Mrs. E. H. TAYLOR.
Mr. G. D. FURLONG of Atta, Iowa is visiting his father, Mr. Samuel FURLONG.
