SOCIAL AND PERSONAL —
Miss Willie D. TAYLOR, whose marriage to Arthur F. SMITH occurs next Wednesday, was guest of honor at a hosiery shower tendered her last Wednesday afternoon by Misses Sallie BOND and Lettie COMEGYS at their home on Lafayette street. Jackson, Tenn., June 1st-
Rev. F. L. HALL and Mrs. Elizabeth HOBSON were married Monday night at the University Chapel with Rev. G. M. SAVAGE officiating. The bride is a teacher of expressions at the University and the groom is a young ministrial student.
Dr. & Mrs. J. R. NELSON, of Eurekaton, announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Rubye, to Dr. Joseph Terry SEMOUR, at their home on June 18th, at 10 a. m.
Thos. NEWELL, of Paris, has accepted a position with the Glass Drug Co.
Walter SHERMAN, of Sheffield, Ala., is visiting his sister, Mrs. J. M. COX.
Mrs. Georgia MANN is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. John McCONNICO, at Houston, Miss.
Mrs. A. H. CURRIE and little granddaughter, Miss Lyde, are the guests of Rev. B. M. CURRIE at Cloverport, Ky.
Mrs. John S. BURTON and little son, John Jr. of Cleveland, Miss., are the guests of Mrs. BURTON’s parents, Mr. & Mrs. T. B. KING.
Mrs. J. H. WATKINS of Adairville, Ky., stopped off here a few days enroute home from Mineral Wells, Texas, to visit her son, Mr. J. M. VIERS.
Dr. J. G. RUSS and daughter, Miss Carrie, of Clifton, Tenn., were the guests of Mr. & Mrs. H. M. JACKSON the first of the week. On their return home, they were accompanied by little Miss Martha Elizabeth RUSS, who will spend the summer with her grandparents.
NEWS OF THE WEEK — Harry THAW will be returned to the Matteawan state hospital and will not be transferred to some state insane asylum hospital, Dr. Albert W. FERRIS, chairman of the state lunacy commission said. The state commission has supervision over the state hospital of the criminal insane and only through its consent can a transfer be made.
LOCAL NEWS —
Rev. W. A. RUSSELL was called to Dyer Sunday afternoon on account of the serious sickness of his mother. He left on the Dyer train about 10 p. m. A card received from Brother RUSSELL Tuesday states that his mother died Monday morning.
Ellimore SEVIER, one of the most prominent of the faculty of the colored school died very suddenly at the home of her father, Wm. SEVIER in South Brownsville on Wednesday morning. She was one of the most highly educated colored woman of the state, prominent in all movements looking to the elevation of her race.
