J. A. STEWART — has qualified as administrator of the estate of the late G. B. CARVIN.
MR. & MRS. J. D. CURTIS — were called to Paris last Friday to attend the bedside of his sister, MRS. T. C. McCALL, who has been in a low stage of health for some months. She died Saturday morning at her home five miles west of Paris. The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church and leaves her husband and four boys. Her renains were interred in the family graveyard Sunday evening.
MISS ELLEN WHITE — sister of Mr. J. W. WHITE of this city, widely known in this county and Crockett where she resided all her life, died at the residence of her brother, Mr. Buck WHITE, near Rein Tuesday evening, April 4th of pneumonia. Her death was peculiarly sad as she had been called from her residence in Crockett county to nurse the family of her brother, whose wife died of the same illness about two weeks ago. Interment took place at Zion Church Wednesday.
THE MONUMENTAL SLAB — donated by J. T. WHITEHEAD of Jackson, was erected at the grave of Comrade Mike McGRATH last Saturday by the local bivouac with appropriate ceremony.
MRS. BETTIE PRACHT — widow of the late August PRACHT died at her home at this place last Friday morning, aged 67 years. Since the death of her husband two months ago, her health had gradually declined and her death was not wholly unexpected. During the long illness of her husband she gave to him the closest and most unrelenting care and attention which together with the sad bereavement by his death, was a great tax on her physical strength. Four children; C. W. PRACHT, John PRACHT, Mrs. T. W. POPE, and Mrs. John FRITCH survive her. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.
SAVAGE’S PRAYER — The “old man of the mountains, ” soldier and statesman, is at death’s door at his home in McMinnville. In a book which Colonel SAVAGE wrote of himself appears the following under the head of “Savage’s Prayer. ” “To the Great Spirit, ruler of a boundless universe, mysteries, incomprehensible, self-existing, omnipotent and omnisciant, of whom men can know nothing except as revealed by the light of the sun, moon and stars, to thee I address this my humble prayer. I pray thee to look in mercy on the little good I have tried to do, and pardon the many wrongs I may have committed on the earth, and when this life shall end I pray thee, accept my spirit and although it be but an atom in thy boundless universe, let it live immortal and not perish in endless night.”
BELLS —
The many friends of MISS ELLEN WHITE in this town were indeed sorry to hear of her death yesterday evening, which sad event occurred at the residence of her brother at Allen’s Station. She was a noble self-sacrificing Christian lady.
The little three-year-old daughter of MR. BOB LOVING of near Gadsden was burned to death Monday afternoon while out in the field with her little brothers burning stalks.
The entire community was caused to mourn the death of MRS. E. HICKS which sad event occurred in Arkansas on Thursday of last week. Her remains were brought here and interred in Belleview Cemetery Friday afternoon, services conducted by Elder R. O. MEEKS.
Mr. W. M. RASBURY — of Milan and Miss AUGUSTA TRANSON, of this city were united in marriage Monday at the residence of Dr. T. W. COOPER, Rev. C. S. SHOLL officiating. They will reside in Brownsville.
