LOCAL ITEMS FROM PLEASANT GROVE —
Clyde MOODY attended the 5th Sunday meeting at Holly Grove Saturday and Sunday.
Miss Ola MOODY entertained friends last Tuesday evening, playing flinch.
FROM LEBANON —
Esq. J. L. WEAVER and wife have returned from an extended visit to Texas and Indian Territory.
Jasper CARLTON, Jr., left last Friday for Oklahoma to practice law.
DANCEYVILLE NEWS AND NOTES —
Professor Emmett SEACY [Searcy?] was called by telegram Sunday to the bedside of his father in Ky.
Mrs. M. L. WEBB, of Bolivar, is enjoying an extended visit with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. F. R. JONES.
WEST MADISON —
Mr. Jack HENDERSON and family of Kentucky, are visiting his sister, Mrs. F. W. HENNING. They will locate near Huntsville.
Mrs. Walter BUNTIN leaves next Tuesday for Oklahoma. Mr. BUNTIN has been in Okla. for several weeks where they will reside in the future. Mrs. BUNTIN will be accompanied by her sister, Miss Vira TYSON, of Catalpa. Miss TYSON will stay until August.
LOCAL HAPPENINGS AT EUREKATON —
Miss Julia POWELL, of Hillville, visited her sister, Mrs. J. B. BENTLEY last week.
Mrs. S. A. NEWSOM visited her daughter, Mrs. W. R. FORD, of Hillville.
FROM TOULON —
Mrs. DILL, wife of J. A. DILL, Sr., is very sick at her home.
Mr. Ed HARTMAN and wife and sister, Miss Lena HARTMAN, visited their mother, Mrs. G. D. SMITH.
LOCAL NEWS —
Dr. T. K. POWELL died at his home near Eurekaton in this county yesterday morning, and will be buried this morning at 10’clock at Harmony church. The companion of his young manhood survives him.
T. J. WELCH, a few years since a prominent citizen of this county, later a resident of Searcy, Ark., where he was engaged in the insurance business and very successful, was last week suddenly stricken with insanity and carried to an asylum at Little Rock, where his case was pronounced hopeless. Last week his family returned to their old home south of Hatchie, where they will hereafter reside.
Mr. C. SAYERS, an old respected citizen, who lived near Wilson’s schoolhouse, southwest of Brownsville, died suddenly last Sunday. Mr. SAYERS was engaged in a controversy with one of his negro tenants over a division of money received for a bale of cotton sold Saturday. The old man became wrought up over the negro’s insolence, and reached down to get an axe, suddenly became deathly pale, staggered and fell dead. Heart disease was the cause. His remains were buried at Lebanon church Monday, Rev. R. M. KING officiating. He had resided in Haywood county for many years and was a good farmer. He came here from Kentucky.
Mr. Henry L. TAYLOR died Thursday at 1:30 a. m. at the residence of his son-in- law, Judge Jno N. BOND. The deceased was born in Mecklenburg Co Va., Jan. 14, 1825 and removed with his parents to West Tennessee in 1832. In 1851, he married Miss Georgianna WOOD. Surviving are the following children:Dr. W. W. TAYLOR, Memphis; E. H. TAYLOR, Mrs. John N. BOND and Mrs. CUMMINS. The remains will be interred in Oakwood cemetery this morning at 10 o’clock.
SOCIAL AND PERSONAL —
Invitations have been issued by Mr. & Mrs. James William BROWN, announcing the marriage of their daughter, Miss Edna, to Mr. O. M. GATES, of Richmond, Va., on April 22nd at the M. E. church.
Mr. Ellis COZART and Miss Cora BARCROFT were married last Wednesday night at the Methodist parsonage by Rev. W. W. ADAMS.
Memphis Morning News: Gen. G. W. GORDON, commanding the Tennessee division, United Confederate Veterans, has announced a selection of the auxiliary maid of honor and the chaperon for the reunion to be held in New Orleans in May. The maid of honor is Miss Katherine Page TRUSS, of Stanton, the chaperon is Mrs. Helen C. TAYLOR of Brownsville.
