DANCEYVILLE NEWS AND NOTES —
In the afternoon of January 15th, at the home of the bride’s father, C. W. WILKERSON, Miss Mattie WILKERSON and Mr. Dears ROGERS were married by Rev. J. H. RENSHAW.
LUTHER WEBB, Hardeman county’s Recorder, came down from Bolivar Saturday night and spent Sunday with his wife, formerly Miss Alma JONES, and her family, whom she has been visiting for several weeks since her recent illness. She returned with Mr. WEBB to Bolivar.
We learn that P. R. KERR, of Asbury will, in the near future, engage in the grocery business in Booneville, Ark.
Mr. & Mrs. W. B. MARTIN have purchased the Currie place on Main Street, and will begin to occupy their new home about February 1st.
FROM LEBANON; JANUARY 20, 1903 —
We learn with sorrow that Mrs. Laura LIVINGSTON is gradually growing weaker.
Mrs. J. L. LIVINGSTON is confined to her bed with erysipelas. John W. DAVIE, who has been sick for sometime is better.
LOCAL HAPPENINGS AT TIBBS; JANUARY 18, 1903 —
Mr. Lewis FREEMAN, of Brownsville, is visiting Mr. L. G. GREAVES and family of this place.
The 9-year-old son of Mr. & Mrs. Frank GILBERT is on the sick list this week. The doctors think he has congestion of the stomach.
LOCAL HAPPENINGS AT MERCER; JANUARY 14, 1903 —
Mr. Parmer POPE, of Texas, is at home for awhile.
Misses Ida BARCROFT, of Memphis and Susie BOBBITT, of this place, have returned from an extended visit to Kentucky.
LOCAL AND PERSONALS FROM NUT BUSH —
Marshall, the bright little boy of Mr. & Mrs. LANIER, has been quite sick.
Mr. Walter HUTCHERSON, of Mack, paid our city a call Sunday.
Prof. McCORKIE has resigned his position in the city public school and Miss Effie ELMORE is assisting Mrs. SMOOTS until the board comes to a decision.
LAUDERDALE COUNTY NEWS; FROM THE RIPLEY NEWS —
Mr. AL LLOYD and Miss Sallie LANKFORD were married at the home of the bride in Henning on Wednesday of last week. The bride is the daughter of P. L LANKFORD of the Third District.
Mr. Walter BYRN and Miss Sevela LUTON were married at the home of the bride at Lightfoot, on the 9th, Rev. W. G. WALTERS officiating. Mr. BYRN is of the Sixth District.
FROM THE ENTERPRISE — Mrs. A. M. BROGDEN died Wednesday night at her home near Henning. Her death was caused by a sudden stroke of paralysis. She was in her 71st year.
CROCKETT COUNTY CLIPPINGS; BELLS SENTINEL — C. B. MUSGROVE and family left last Friday for Brownsville, where they will make their home.
LOCAL NEWS —
Mr. Mel TALIAFERRO, who has been sick with pneumonia, is gradually improving.
Rev. C. S. SHOLL, who has been quite unwell for sometime, left Wednesday evening for Birmingham, Ala. , his old home to recuperate.
James A. JOYNER, Esq. , celebrated his 50th birthday at his home in the 4th district on Wednesday, January 14th, with a big dining. There were present to enjoy the reunion thirteen children; three daughters-in-law; four grandchildren; and ten or twelve of the Squire’s neighbors.
Information comes from Mercer of the happy condition of W. S. MARBURY’s mind Tuesday morning, with its snow, also ushered into his household, a handsome baby boy. Feeling good over this addition to his family, he visited his barn to care for his stock, and discovered an increase in his possessions there in the shape of twin calves.
The death of R. B. BROWN at Bolivar on the 19th filled our people, who have known him from his boyhood with profoundest sorrow. From early manhood, he filled many important positions on the I. C. Railroad in Ala. , and Miss. , continuing in this service until recently, when his health gave down, and he was placed in the State Sanitarium for treatment, but continued to grow worse until his sun of life set in great peace. He was laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery on Wednesday at 10 a. m. , the services being conducted by Rev. W. W. ADAMS. He left a wife and four children.
Raymond MORTON, of Osyka, Miss. , writes under date of January 15th, to his father, J. H. MORTON at this place, that he is the happiest boy on earth. The exuberant condition of his mind was occasioned by the arrival at his home on the above mentioned day of two bouncing baby girls.
W. H. POINT, a young white man about 20 years old, was brought to Brownsville Monday by Deputy Sheriff D. A. BURLISON and placed in jail. The young man is charged with house breaking. The charges were preferred by the young man’s aunt, Mrs. G. D. SMITH, who lives near Toulon.
Isaac BURLISON and Albert SAVAGE, young men from the 10th district, left Monday for Jackson, where they will enterthe Southwestern Baptist University. They are the sons of D. A. BURLISON and M. W. SAVAGE.
The house and lot now occupied by Mr. J. B. KINNEY and family on Lafayette street, will be sold on Saturday, January 31st. , at the courthouse by County Court Clerk, W. W. DUPREE.
SOCIAL AND PERSONAL —
The marriage of Miss Mary C. MANN and Mr. John D. McCONNICO was solomnized at 8:30 p. m. Wednesday at the home of the parents, in the presence of a small number of friends and relatives, the ceremony preformed by Rev. R. M. KING. The bride is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. James H. MANN. The groom is interested in the F. J. Blackwell Lumber Co.
A special from Bolivar, Tenn. , to the Commercial Appeal of the 19th last, contained the following announcement:At the Bolivar Hotel this afternoon, P. M. BISHOP, of the 12th district and Miss Carrie TISDALE, of Whiteville were married. The ceremony was preformed by Rev. J. M. SCOTT of the Methodist Church. The groom is a brother of County Superindent D. E. BISHOP.
Cards have been issued by Dr. and Mrs. H. P. HUDSON, announcing the marriage of their daughter, Nina, to Dr. John C. NORVELL, at their home at Hanley on Wednesday afternoon, February 4th, at 3 p. m.
Miss Mary FISHER, of Durhamville, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Vernon MANN.
T. K. EDMONDS, of Milan, father of our fellow townsman, Ben EDMONDS is in the city.
Ernest SHAW left a few weeks ago for DesMoines, Iowa, to attend a business college.
Miss Velma STEWART, of Whiteville, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. A. G. HOWELL, on College street.
Dr. & Mrs. A. E. COX and their bright little son, Allen Estes, of Milan, are the guests of Mrs. H. B. FOLK on West Main.
Mr. James WALKER, of Mack, Lauderdale county, was in the city, the guest of his nephew, C. S. WALKER.
