Power of Attorney From Dr. Samuel A. Mims to Sell Dancyville Land – 1857
Know all men by these present that I Samuel A. Mims of the town of Greenville and of the district of Greenville of the State of South Carolina, have made constituted and appointed and in my name and ________ ________ _______ ___________ N.S. Burroughs of the town of Dancyville, of the county of Haywood, and State of Tennessee my true and lawful attorney for me and in my place and stead to grant, bargain, sell and convey all these pieces or parcels and lots of land situated in the town of Dancyville, in the county of Haywood, in the State of Tennessee and bounded as follows / The first beginning at a stake on the Somerville and Brownsville Road the south west corner of a lot of ten acres belonging to the Trenton Bank thence south
89 1/10 poles to a stake, then south 30 “/” East 31 1/10 poles to a stake, then north 89 East 14 1/0 poles to a stake then north 2/0 west to the corner where we began containing 3 acres more or less. / The second lot is bounded as follows beginning at the north east corner of _____________ lot on the road leading to the Methodist Church where the same forms the lots in which Thomas C. Coppedge now lives thence south with Methodist Church Road 12 poles and 3 links to a stake thence west 11 1/2 poles to a stake thence to a stake 11 poles to a stake thence east 10 poles and five feet to the beginning, the said lot contains one hundred and twenty acres and four poles, more or less / The third lot is bounded as follows on the left south by Covington and Bolivar road east–East and north by the lands of Dr. Felix McFarland West by the lands of McFarland and Thomas Sheppard with the appurtenances and all of my Estate right title and interest in the above named lots unto to person or persons and from such price or sum of money as he should think best and as my proper act and deed to sign seal and deliver and to acknowledge all such deeds of conveyance as shall be necessary to the absolute granting and assigning of the premises unto such purchuser or purchasus shall name in fee simple and to demand receive and collect all sums of money which shall become due or payable to me if reason of such sale or sales and unto my attorney full power to do, preform all and every that may be necessary to be done about the premises as fully to all intents and purposes as could do were I personally present hereby satisfying and confirming all that my said attorney shall do for witness whereas I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 11th of January AD 1857 and in 81st year of the sovergity and independence of the United States of America.
