TIBBS — Someone attempted to burn J. I. WELLS & Son’s gin this morning. Fire was discovered in the house about daylight by Mr. J. T. GILBERT as he was going home from the store. Waking Mr. WELLS, they overcame the flames. The parties who set the fire used coal oil. Miss DORA HOOPER has charge of our school again this year.
CAROLINA — We regret to learn of the serious illness of the infant son of Mr. & Mrs. A. S. HIGGINS.
BELLS —
Mr. BUCK BRYANT’s two-year-old baby died last Thursday night and was buried at Belleview Cem. in Bells.
Ex-Sheriff R. L. CONYERS has accepted a position as salesman with J. W. PERRY & Co., Alamo.
SOUTH HATCHIE —
Mrs. B. F. THOMAS is visiting Mrs. D. M. NEBLETT, her brother’s wife, who is very sick.
Robert GIBSON, brother of Mrs. G. A. MARSHALL is visiting.
REIN —
Glad to report that at last report Hardy COBB was doing nicely.
The negro, Lawyer SNIPES, who was shot a short time since is able to be out. As yet no evidence as to who did the shooting.
Alex WEDDIE of Bells visited his cousins, the Misses ROOKS last Sunday.
LOCAL NEWS —
SCRAP WATSON has sold his home in South Brownsville to W. T. BULLIFIN; consideration, $350.
Mr. Asa O. MANN and his daughter, Harriett Calista, both of whom have typhoid fever at their home three miles north of town, were reported better yesterday but they are still critically ill.
Miss Louise HUNT will teach the Business Course, Bookkeeping, Shorthand and Typing at Prof. OGLIVIE’s Training School starting Monday the 26th.
Hon. J. W. E. MOORE, our fellow townsman, has been appointed a delegate to the Universal Congress of Lawyers and Jurists to be held Sept. 28-30 at St. Louis under the auspices of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition Company and American Bar Association.
SOCIAL AND PERSONAL —
Mr. W. A. WILKERSON of Stanton announces the engagement and marriage of his daughter, Susie, to Mr. Harry V. WALLACE. The ceremony will occur on the evening of October 6th in Danceyville, Tenn.
Miss Annebell MOORE left Wednesday for Greenville, N. C. where she will teach.
Livingston TAYLOR left for Nashville where he will enter Vanderbilt.
Thos. L. EDWARDS left for Nashville where he will enter Vanderbilt University.
Misses Maggie and Lillie BRUMMETT of Denmark are visiting their cousin, Mrs. Bettie JEFFRIES, west of Brownsville.
