SPRING HILL — Miss Esther MARSHALL left the 6th for Jackson, Tenn., to attend school.
BELLS —
Alex WEBB has moved back to Bells from Memphis.
ALBERT CASEY died Monday at Union City. The remains were brought to Fruitvale Tuesday morning and interred in the family burying ground.
W. A. WAINWRIGHT, a well-known young business man of Bells, and Miss SOPHIA SHERROD were married Wednesday night and left on the cannonball train for St. Louis.
REIN —
Dr. GUY W. MUSGROVE who has been located here for the past four months has moved to Dr. THOMAS’ near Jones Station, where he and Dr. THOMAS will practice medicine together.
J. HARDY COBB got his right arm caught in some machinery last Saturday and his hand and arm were so badly mangled before the machinery could be stopped that his arm had to be amputated near the shoulder.
FRANK BRIGHT and sister Miss Alice visited H. A. JACOCKS and wife Sunday.
Mrs. BETTIE JONES who has been visiting in Bells returned home Monday, accompanied by her cousin, Mrs. NANCY BOZEMAN.
A son of ALLEN SNIPES, colored, was shot and seriously wounded last Sunday night by some unknown party laying in ambush near Allen’s Schoolhouse. At this writing he is doing well. No clue to the guilty party. A shotgun was used and two shots fired.

Mrs. GEORGE MOORE is visiting her daughter, Mrs. A. S. HIGGINS.
MARCUS WILLIAMS, son of R. A. WILLIAMS has been quite sick with typhoid fever.
Monroe, son of DAVE ROOKS is convalescing after a long spell of typhoid fever.
LOCAL NEWS —
J. M. DARNABY has bought the residence owned by B. L. CAPELL just south of the depot, now occupied by FRED BACHMAN, the barber; consideration, $750.
LAWYEAR SNIPES, colored, was waylaid and severly wounded by unknown parties Sunday night near SNIPES school house in the 5th district. He was wounded with squirrel shot in both legs. Dr. A. B. YOUNG dressed his wounds.
Mrs. G. B. WILLIAMS has returned from New York, where she took special work in voice culture for the benefit of her class. She and Miss Rosa LIVINGSTON will have a music studio together at the Boys Training School.
WE REGRET — to announce the death of Wm R. LEIGH, Esq., which occurred at his room in the Pythian Hotel on the morning of the 12th inst., after a lingering illness lasting nearly three months. The funeral services were said by Rev. H. B. JOHNSTON at the Methodist church, burial in the Oakwood cemetery. He was born and raised here. He took the degree of A. M. at the University of Michigan and afterward studied law at Cumberland University. During the yellow fever epidemic here in 1878 he volunteered his services to the Howard Association. Surviving him are three sister and two brothers: Mrs. Lida KILLEBREW of this city, Mrs. Kate JACOBS and Mrs. Geo INGRAM of Memphis, Messrs. Spencer and Hale BOND of Indian Territory.
SOCIAL AND PERSONAL —
Commercial Appeal: Mr. & Mrs. A. S. CARPENTER announce the marriage of their daughter, Bessie Lee, to Marion A. SCHNEIDER. The ceremony will take place at the Madison Heights M. E. church September 22nd. The bride has relatives in Brownsville.
Thos. A. RIVES of Stanton, Tenn., and Miss Clara HARTSFIELD of Mississippi were married on the 7th of September at Water Valley, Miss., ceremony performed by Rev. J. W. BRADLEY. He is the eldest son of W. C. RIVES and is manager of a saw mill owned by Messrs. TAYLOR and BASKERVILLE, located near Water Valley. She is a school teacher.
Miss Mamie O. GRAY opened her school at Woodland last Monday.
Rev. R. M. KING and son, Floyd and J. W. McCLISH are visiting the world’s Fair.
Miss Judith STURDIVANT came to town Monday to enter Prof. OGILVIE’s training school.
Prof. BINFORD of Stanton spent a few days in the city last week visiting his sister, Mrs. Ben MANN.
Misses Dora Willie GAUSE and Etta WAGNER left Saturday for Henning where they will engage in teaching.
Earl KING leaves Sunday for Oxford, Ga where he re-enters Emory College.
Misses Margaret CHAMBLISS and Irene LYLE left Wednesday for Nashville to attend Belmont College.
Mrs. Kate Bond JACOBS and Thomas Bond Jacobs and Wm. Bond INGRAM of Memphis attended the funeral of Mr. Will Leigh.
Mr. Ace UMPSTEAD is in Union City to visit his sister, Mrs. Henry Moss.
SOCIAL AND PERSONAL —
Mrs. SMITH returned to her home in Texarkana after visiting her parents, Mr. & Mrs. R. V. MANN. She was accompanied home by her mother.
Mrs. Georgia INGRAM of Memphis was here with her sister, Mrs. Lida KILLEBREW during most of the illness of their brother, Mr. LEIGH.
Mrs. T. P. JONES of the 2nd district is in Knoxville for the purpose of entering her son, Phillip Willis in the Deaf and Dumb School. Mr. JONES accompanied her as far as Memphis.
Guy and Frank PRACHT left early this week for Lebanon, Tenn., to enter the Castle Heights Training School.
Mrs. F. F. CHAMBERS and son, Robert, of Texas after a pleasant visit to Mrs. J. J. COPPEDGE have gone to Bells to join her husband, Rev. F. F. CHAMBERS. From there they will visit Friendship and St. Louis, going on to Butte, Montana, where he has accepted the pastorate of the First Methodist Church.
