ON THE MORNING — of August 13th the death angel came again into our midst and took away little Freddie CLAYTON, aged 9 years. Very gently did the dread messenger deal with the little sufferer hesitating as it were, to snatch her away from loved ones. Eurekation. August 15th.
BELLS — MR. ROBERT GUTHRIE and MISS NELLIE MONTAGUE were married at Alamo last week.
LOCAL NEWS —
The condition of W. R. LEIGH, Esq., is growing worse daily.
MRS. B. C. MILES is very sick at her residence on Jefferson street.
MRS. W. B. CLAIBORNE has been dangerously ill at her residence at Rudolph, is improving.
MR. BEN B. BOOKER purchased Wednesday of his kinsman, Mr. W. C. DANIELS of Arkansas, the old WILLS homestead containing 150 acres of land, located four miles west of Brownsville.
MRS. EMMA COMPTON — daughter of Mrs. John WEST, died at her home in the Hanley neighborhood Sunday afternoon and was laid to rest Monday morning in the burying grounds of Brown’s Creek Church.
A TELEGRAM FROM LAS VEGAS, N. M. — Sunday afternoon to Miss Laura BRADFORD informed her of the death of Miss MATTIE BROCKWAY, a daughter of Mr. W. G. BROCKWAY and the late loved Mrs. Mamie BRADFORD. In her home in Gadsden, Ala., she had contracted tuberculosis and with her family went West to drive away the dread disease but at last fell its victim. She was in her 20th year. Two members of her immediate family are left to mourn her; her aged grandmother, Mrs. Mattie BRADFORD, and her father. Her remains were carried to her home in Gadsden, Ala., for interment by the side of her mother who was laid to rest in Feb.
SOCIAL AND PERSONAL —
MRS. M. E. GROVE announces the marriage of her daughter, MISS SUSIE to MR. JOSEPH G. BAXTER of Stanton, the ceremony to take place at the Methodist Church at high noon Wednesday, August 24th, 1904.
MR. HENRY CLAIBORNE came in on Sunday from Houston, Miss., being called home by the dangerous illness of his mother.
MISS MAMIE THOMAS will leave tomorrow on a visit to her sister Mrs. Will EDWARDS at Memphis.
MRS. T. O. BOND and her son are in Okla. Territory visiting her father, Rev. Mat OWEN.
MR. J. A. WOODALL of Little Rock, Ark., spent Wednesday, Thursday & Friday in town with his sisters, Mrs. Ed LANGHAM and Mrs. S. D. WILSON.
Mr. Worley WOODALL and little son, Martin, also visited his sisters before leaving with J. A. WOODALL, his brother, for Little Rock to visit brothers and relatives.
