CAROLINA —
MR. E. A. RAWORTH, of Redwood, Miss., who has been up on a visit to his family since the holidays, will return this week. Mr. Allen RAWORTH will go with his father on his return to Miss., and Dick RAWORTH will take charge of the farm here.
MRS. W. P. BOND left Saturday for Mason, being called to the bedside of her daughter, Mrs. W. A. CLEMENT who was reported to be quite sick.
The stork visited the home of Mr. & Mrs. NED GRAVES and left a nine pound boy. Glad to hear that mother and child are doing well. Ned says he’s just like all babies, “bald-headed and no teeth. “
CATALPA —
JAMES B. WILLIAMSON, Esq. who has recently been elected magistrate to fill the place made vacant by the death of his father, R. D. WILLIAMSON.
John B. WILLIAMSON has bought the entire stock of dry goods and groceries from James B. WILLIAMSON of Catalpa.
MR. WILLIS A. OVERTON and MISS JULIA MUSGRAVE were married on the 13th of Jan. at Mr. BIRDSONG’s residence near Catalpa near Madison County. The ceremony was performed by James B. WILLIAMSON, Esq.
RUDOLPH —
Little FANNIE KATE, daughter of MR. GEORGE JONES is sick with typhoid fever.
REIN —
HERBERT MARBURY and MISS MADGE WEBB were married last Tuesday at the residence of his grandfather, Rev. R. G. MARBURY.
MR. FRANCIS MARBURY and MISS ADDLINE CAIN of Jones Station were married at the residence of Esq. R. G. HERRING Sunday.
A number of our people attended the burial of MR. G. LEE WALKER at Tabnernacle Sunday evening.
LOCAL NEWS —
MRS. SARAH A. FERGASON died at her Memphis home on Tuesday. As hostess at her elegant Lauderdale County home, she entertained many Brownsville people.
MARY ROGERS, a colored girl raised by the late Mrs. E. L. McLESKEY died at her home in Brownsville Sunday. Mary was a good girl, respected by all who knew her.
The will of MRS. ELIZABETH J. WEAVER was probated in County Court last Saturday. All the estate real and personal is given to her husband, J. L. WEAVER.
Dr. HAYWOOD left Wednesday for Fulton, Ky., having received a telegram summoning him to the bedside of MISS PATTIE ROGERS HALLIBURTON, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J. H. HALLIBURTON, who is dangerously ill.
Dr. ALLEN received a call to the same case the day before.
Little ANGIE, infant son of Mr. & Mrs. TOM HUMPHREYS died at the family residence at Forked Deer on Wednesday last and was buried the following day.
MR. LEE WALKER died at his residence two miles east of town and was buried at Tabernacle Sunday morning. He was an old citizen having moved to this section immediately after the war when a youth. He was prominent in farming circles.
MRS. MARTHA TAYLOR — relict of JOHN L. TAYLOR, of Memphis who died many years ago, died at her home in the 5th district on Thursday and was buried at Tabernacle the following day, Rev. R. M. KING conducting the services. Mrs. TAYLOR was a representive of a pioneer family and extensively known and loved in West Tennessee, being a daughter of the late Dr. BARBEE. She leaves three sons; a daughter; two brothers and three sisters.
SOCIAL AND PERSONAL —
MR. & MRS. ROBERT H. WILHOITE, of Sheffield, Ala., announce the engagement of their daughter, FLORENCE to SEMPLE WILSON TUTWILER of Birmingham, the wedding to take place this spring.
MR. C. P. TALIAFERRO and MISS BESSIE McMURRY both of this county were married in Memphis on the 6th day of this month. The bride is the granddaughter of the late George FARRIS, while the groom is the son of L. V. TALIAFERRO.
Mr. & Mrs. JOHN HALLIBURTON and little daughter left last week for Pass Christian, Miss. Mr. HALLIBURTON has had a contract with the Illinois Central Railroad and has located his family in Fulton, Ky. Mrs. HALLIBURTON and daughter will remain on the Gulf Coast during the winter.
