WOODS, GAMMONS
Searching for information on my g-g-g-grandparents, Montgomery and Martha WOODS. Martha’s former name is not known to me. They lived in the Hawkins County area and appear on the Federal census of 1850. Listed as living in the household at the time were: Montgomery, 45; Martha, 37; Susan, 12 (my g-g-grandmother); Sarah, 10; George, 8; Martha, 4; and Kitturah, 2. Montgomery was listed as a farmer and they lived in District 10 of Hawkins County. Martha was believed to be of Cherokee descent. Susan WOODS married Isaiah GAMMONS in 1862 at Rogersville, TN. MANN, MCMINN
William MANN born 7 June 1788 in Hawkins County, TN died Pope County, Illinois. Married to Sarah “Sadie” McMINN born 17 FEB 1793 in TN(probably in Hawkins County). In 1818 there was a Revolutionary War vet named Ezekial MANN who applied for a pension in Hawkins County. He said he enlisted in Buckingham County,VA and 59 years old at that 1818 date (making him born 1759. He said he was dependent on his son for support. Was that son this same William MANN? CARDIN, SMITH, MOUNTCASTLE
My g grandmother, Mary Francis CARDIN (1830-1889), married my g grandfather Duncan SMITH (1828-1862) in Hawkins County on Sept. 09, 1851. She is listed in the 1850 Hawkins census in the household of Robert and Jeanetta (MOUNTCASTLE) CARDIN. Jeanetta was not her mother according to a newspaper interview of Jeanetta in 1905. I am looking for information on a Samuel McGONIGAL who died in Hawkins County,TN on 15 Dec. 1871. He married a Pensely YATES in Caswell Co., NC (date unknown) and they had one son but seem to have raised several other children, perhaps by a previous marriage. Samuel McGONIGAL joined the army in Guilford Co., NC and served in the War of 1812. He probably arrived in Hawkins Co., TN ca. 1850. My great, great grandfather, John W. DEAN (1840-1907) was an Elder at Walnut Grove Church. His first wife was Margaret MEAD who died in 1894. His second wife was Mary. I would like to know Mary’s last name, her parents, and when she died. John and Margaret are buried in Dean Cemetery. Also, I would like some information about Walnut Grove Church, such as its location or if any church minutes or early photos exist.

TAYLOR, RIPPETO
I am searching for information about my great-great-grandparents, Minor Clinton TAYLOR and Barsha (or Barshaba) RIPPETO. I have information that suggests that they were married in Hawkins County on November 22, 1848. Family recollections say that Barshaba was a full-blooded Cherokee and that MC was a Church of Christ minister. They moved to Eastern KY (in or around Estill County, KY) sometime after their marriage. I would be delighted to find information about the parents or siblings of either of these ancestors. I’m willing to share the information that I have. I also have a copy of a photo of them in their old age.

I am looking for information on the relatives and parents of John Garfield SHROPSHIRE, b. 1835 in Hawkins County, TN. He first married Nancy SEXTON, b.1836 in Hawkins County and married in Hawkins County on March 7, 1855. Nancy date of death not known. This union produce one son; Wiley A. SHROPSHIRE, b.1859, d. 1916. Married Annie PRICE in Hawkins County, date not known. Both interred in Joe PRICE Cemetery about 12mi NW of Rogersville, TN. John then married Margaret “Maggie” BRANCH (could be Margaret Branch TUCKER) May 28, 1874 in Hawkins County, TN. This union produced four sons, Charles, Samuel, George and James. All born in Hawkins county before 1894. John and family left Hawkins County in 1896-96 for Greenville, Texas, where they remained until 1903. John then disappeared. Margaret and his sons moved on to Dallas, TX and eventually all were interred in a Dallas Cemetery. Most particularly interested in locating the parents of my great grandfather. Don’t know if John was in Conf. Army.

I am searching for descendants of James ROBERTSON, John ROBERTSON, Richard T. ROBERTSON, William ROBERTSON, Hezekiah ROBERTSON, and Jesse ROBERTSON all born between 1793 and about 1825 in Hawkins County. They were sons of Richard ROBERTSON, who died in 1831.
