HALE, Martha C. (d. 1924)
Mrs. Martha C. Hale Dies — Mrs. Martha C. HALE, age 76 years, 5 months, and 16 days, died at the home of Arthur CARNES in Dyer, Saturday, March 29th after several months illness. Although her death came as no surprise to her many friends, their hearts were made sad when the news of her death reached them. She had been a resident of Dyer for many years and was well and favorably known by everyone.
Mrs. HALE professed faith in Christ and united with the Cumberland Church in childhood. She was married to Nathaniel M. HALE at the close of the war and united with the Methodist church. One child was born to this union, who lived to be eleven years old. After the death of her only baby she mothered three orphan children – Mrs. Mertie RAMSEY, of near Dyer, Miss Bettie Sue CARNES, who died several years ago, and Arthur CARNES of Dyer, with whom she was living at the time of her death. Her husband departed this life a number of years ago. Mrs. HALE was a devoted church worker. She was active in the Sunday School, church, and Missionary Society until ill health prevented. She has entered into that rest which she has waited and longed for, always perfectly submissive. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church, Sunday by Rev. O.C. WRATHER. Interment was at Yorkville cemetery.
