REYNOLDS, HAYES
I'm trying to discover the name of my great-great-grandmother's
father. Her name is Lucy R. HAYES, born about in 1827 in
either Alabama or Tennessee, depending on which census is used. The
earliest census, 1850, said Alabama. She married
James W. B. REYNOLDS on 25 June 1844 in Dickson County, Tennessee.
Lucy's mother was Rachael (maiden name unknown) who was born in
North Carolina in 1800. Besides Lucy her children
were R. L. Hayes (male) born abt. 1827 in Alabama possible twin to
Lucy. All these children were born in Tennessee,
according to the 1850 Texas Census for Upster County: R. HAYES
(female) born abt. 1828, R. G. HAYES (male) born abt.
1830, and M. HAYES (male) born abt. 1833.
Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

I have reason to believe that my ancestor originate in Dickson
County. I recently found a marriage record of P.H. MATHEWS to LYDIA
LEATHERS 9 MAR 1856. Family history says that this is the county
that he left from to go to Missouri with his four children by his
first wife ELIZABETH McNICHOLS (married in Stewart County 20 Jan
1848). He had a brother living in Benton County about this time.
They were not too consistant in how they spelled their name. I have
found it as MATHIS, MATHUS, MATHEWS, MATHEW, and MATTHEWS. His name
was PERRY HARVEY MATTHEWS. Can anyone shed any light on this man or
his family for me. He had two daughters by his second marriage.
One, Virgina, died young, the other born after his death in 1857 was
raised in Tennessee. Her name was WILMUTH HARVEY MATTHEWS HUDGINS.
She married John Hudgins and then John Merrel. Hudgins, I believe
she married in Tn. and Merrel in Tx. I am most anxious to hear from
anyone that can shed some light on this family!

Sometime around 1800 he and wife, Mary Ann GORDON (of Marlboro

(NC), or Marlboro County (SC) to Montgomery County, TN. He
appears to have lived in all three of these NC-SC areas prior
to his move to TN. It is believed he was likely born in Anson
Co (NC) but was married in Marlboro Co (SC). After moving to
TN it appears his family lost contact with him, or at least no
family records have been located giving information on what
became of him and his family after reaching TN. We have
received suggestions we might learn of a connection of him in
the following TN counties: Dickson, Hickman or Stewart. Will share.

P. E .CHAPPELL in the 1900 book A Genealogical History of the above
families says that the 3 ADAMS brothers intermarried with the
daughters of George BOYD family. He states that Sylvester, the 2nd
son of John and Susan WOOD ADAMSwas bn in Halifax Co Va moved to
Humphrey Co Tn. He took with him the orphan children of his brother
Richard. These children are Susan, John, Richard, William, Sylvester
and George. He states that John ADAMS, son of Richard was bn in
Halifax , Va in 1786 , married Peggy Turner and moved to Dickson Co.
Died in 1865. The other children move to Dickson. CHAPPELL says
that George ADAMS , son of Richard ADAMS (1)was married in Dickson
Co, Tn He had children , "among whom, ...were two sons named George
and Richard. This branch removed from Tn many years ago,...to
Kentucky, another says Calif..a lost branch." Is this correct in the
account or is my George the George Adams who is in the 1830 Dickson
Census, the 1830 Robertson and thereafter to death??? Any ideas???

Does anyone have any information on SUSAN RIPPY BROWN, 6 years old,
listed on the 1850 Sumner County TN census
report, district 15, house 932? She is shown living with (I assume)
her mother Elizabeth Brown and (I assume) brother Robert
Sydney Brown. It shows her mother as having been born in Kentucky.
Before she died my grandmother said Susan Brown (her
grandmother) was from Kentucky, but it could have been her mother who
was from there. My gggrandmother Susan Brown b.
1843 or 44, married Dennis F. Hudson and lived in Dickson County.
This is the correct age for Susan in 1850. Does anyone
know about this? Thank you.

I understand that grave rosters for some of the smaller cemeteries in
Dickson Co. have been prepared. However, I would like to know if
there are such records for Union Cemetery in Dickson. My great,
great grandfather, Doctor Thomas PINKERTON (1845-19) is buried there
and I would like to know the current status of Union Cemetery, how to
find the cemetery and if his grave can be located relatively easily.
Please respond to my e-mail address and thanks in advance.
