Dora Olivia Tharps, 73 departed this life at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 1993 at Methodist Hospital South in Memphis, TN. She was born January 5,1920 in Forrest Hill, TN to the late Minola Molone and Percy Womack.
She united with Christ at an early age, she joined Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church in the year of 1944 under the late Rev. F. G. Garrett. She was a choir member, a member of the Missionary Society and many other Church Auxiliaries.
She attended Forrest Hill (Germantown), and Booker T. Washington schools.
She united in Holy Matrimony to the late Dave Tharps in Holly Springs, Mississippi, April 2,1945, Two children preceded her in death, Charles Vanpelt, and Melvin Womack.
She will be lovingly remembered by seven sons: Marvin Womack, Larry Tharps, Michael Tharps, and James Jones all of Mernphis, TN, Dave Ronald Tharps, and Andre Tharps all of Atlanta, GA; three daughters: Sandra Franks of Memphis, TN, Minola Christopher of Atlanta, GA, and Leona Marshall of Rockford, IL; one brother, Hamilton Womack of Hot Springs, AR; five sisters: Ollie Shipp, Geraldine Hancock, Louise Jones of Memphis, TN, Margaret White of Jackson, MS, and Martha Davis of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two daughters-in-law: Youlanda Tharps of Memphis, TN and Carrie Tharps of Atlanta, GA; one son-in-law Robert Marshall of Rockford, IL; three sisters-in-law: Vennie Webber and Nancy Miller of Memphis, TN, Gladys Womack of Hot Springs, AR; three brothers-in-law: Charles Shipp and Joseph Jones of Memphis, TN, and Elliot White of Jackson, MS; twenty-eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and hundreds of friends who will miss her dearly.
