Rev. Lonnie Black, Officiating
On Monday afternoon, February 3, 1997, at 3:00 p.m., the Death Angel knocked on the door and summoned Sis. Lorene Harmon to come home. She was a patient at University Hospital for a few weeks, and later transferred to Candlewood Nursing Home, both of Cleveland, OH.
She was a lifelong native of Henderson County, and moved to Lexington from the Holly Springs Community. She was born on October 6, 1912 to the late Thad and Mary Della Cawthon McHaney. Like so many others during the years of her childhood, she was unable to complete secondary school. But a determination and keen mind drove her to study hard and receive her GED on November 25, 1970, at the age of 58. She was a retired teacher's aide.
At an early age she was converted and soon became an active leader in St. Paul Baptist Church, being its oldest original female member. Through the many connections in the church, she served as a Sunday School teacher, church secretary, B.T.U. president, president of the Baptist Association, member of the missionary society and mothers board. Mrs. Harmon was a self-taught musician, playing regularly for the church 60+ years. She wasn't selfish in her God given talent, for she helped in the music department of most churches in the city and county when called upon, and when it didn't conflict with her services at her church.
Many accompanied musicians came and went for various reasons, but she remained steadfast and devoted until the battle was ended. She also played piano for the Henderson County Senior Citizens Center Singers, and was a member of the Rosebud Chapter of the O.E.S. #223.
She was united in Holy Wedlock at the age of 13 to Mr. Hall Harmon, and remained a devoted wife until his death 63 years later in 1988.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by Mr. Pearlie McHaney, brother; Mr. Ozie M. McHaney and Mrs. Eula McHaney, brother and sister-in-law; and a sister Ms. Addle McHaney. Left to mourn her passing and reflect on fond memories are two nieces, Mrs. Mary Everett McClerking of Cleveland, OH; and Mrs. Mary Helen Allison of Nashville, TN; a brother-in-law, Mr. Sampson Harmon (Ora Lee) Lexington, TN. Many great nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends.

In each of his prayers, he added a special thanks to God for life and for His goodness.

Obituary
On Wednesday night, September 6, 1994 at 9:15 p.m., the death angel touched "Moma Willie" with a finger of silence, causing her to close her eyes into an eternal sleep for a peaceful rest. "Moma Willie" was born in Flatwood, Tennessee on July 4, 1897 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Lewis McDonald.
Mrs. Williams was educated in the Perry County School System. She was married to James Albert Williams April 22, 1923. He preceded her in death on October 4, 1934. To this union, two children were born. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Pilgrim Rest M. B. Church where she served faithfully as a dedicated member and active mother on the Mother's board. She was the oldest mother on the Mother's Board and the oldest church member.
"Moma Willie" has been a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother to her family; not only her natural born children but to other children, she has raised and mothered throughout her life.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two very devoted daughters, Effie Scott of Knoxville, TN and Bertha Mae Neal of Lexington, TN; three grandsons: Malcolm Dotson, Jr. of Ft. Worth, TX, Dr. Murl Dotson of Biloxi, MS and James Dotson of Knoxville, TN; seven great grandchildren: Kyla, Tammy, Meryle Akeana, Taurean, Regina, Malcom III and Malik Dotson; three spiritual daughters, Willie Mae Dabbs, Effie Hart and Augusta Carver. She mothered five children: Paulette Dobbins, Gerald Johnson, Kathryn Reese, Jeffery Dabbs and Lisa Clark. Dear to her heart were Idesha, J. R., Chastity and Chyanna. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends and several very devoted staff members of Methodist Home Health Care.
