PRESLEY,
SMITH, TURKEY
- Looking for information on my grandfather, Noah Alvin SMITH
-- a
Rogersville native. His mother, Louise PRESLEY, died not long after he
was born. His father, Berry SMITH, was said to be Cherokee and the
"family stories" referred to the Cherokee name as being "TURKEY". My
grandfather had one sister, Callie and two brothers, Rhode and Sam.
Berry SMITH died when my grandfather was about five or six. He was then
taken in by the Waterson family of Rogersville. I am having alot of
difficulty locating Berry Smith's parents' names as well as which
direction to turn for more information on the Cherokee lineage (I'm
very new at this). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
