George Slater Thomas (1799-1870) married Catherine Ingles (1801-1887) around 1818. George was born in Washington County, Virginia and made his living as a shoe/boot maker. Catherine was also born in Virginia. Her mother, Mary (Kenner) Ingles (1773-1850), who had been born in Bedford County, PA, lived with the family in Claiborne County.

  • Susannah (1831 – ?) – married William Harris
  • John (1833 – ?) – served in Civil War (CSA)
  • Pleasant Thomas (1836 – ?) – served in Civil War (CSA) – married Mary Ann Davidson

  • George M. (Marion?) (1842 – ?) – served in Civil War (CSA) – married 4/9/1868 Louisiana “Zena” Main (Mayne)

George was buried in 1870 on the far side of the Cumberland Mountain from Speedwell beside the military road built for Colonel John Fitzroy DeCoursey (USA Ohio) to move artillery from the Lambdin House at the junction of Tackett Creek and Clearfork Creek into the Powell Valley through Rogers Gap during the Civil War. Catherine was buried there with him seventeen years later in 1887. The cemetery is named Leach Mountain Cemetery on Find a Grave.

Son of William Jackson “Jackie” & Sarah (McBee) Thomas: Isaac L. Thomas (8/12/1879-3/26/1961) married Mary Elizabeth Davis (6/22/1883-8/8/1965); children: unnamed boy (dy), Kate married Clyde Nicely, Flora married Eck Bailey, Ophia married Howard Hensley, Catherine married Leonard Dixon, Robert married Eula Mynatt, George W. married ?, Grace married Charles Nicely, Goldie married Claude Bailey, and Lorn never married.
