Chambliss, Lowe, Mallory, Williams

Dale Cunningham, Norcross, GA

My paternal grandmother, Eula Chambliss, was born in Nepturne, TN.  Her father was John Chambliss who married Anna Rowena Mallory who was daughter of Dr. Rufous Mallory who married Mary Williams (she died 1/18/1921).  Mary Williams was daughter of James H. Williams (born 5/1/1806, died 9/15/1183) who married Mary Ann Lowe (born 5/26/1812, died 9/7/1987.
Believe all of these lived in Cheatham County, or at least nearby.  Neptune and Ashland City come up multiple times.
Any light you could shed on their birth dates, city where born (realize could be farm out in country), and date of death would be appreciate.  Any other descendents tied into these would also be appreciate.
My father was born in Nashville, TN and his father in Sandersville, TN, near Gallatin, TN.

MCCORMACK, SANDERS, SIMMONS

Brandi Hargrove

Looking for information on Jesse SIMMONS, married Nancy SANDERS in 1863. I'm having a problem with wives and children. Jesse (spelled as Jessy) is listed on the 1860 census in Cheatham Co. with wife N., age 30, and four children, ages 1 mo. to 9 yrs. On the 1870 census, also in Cheatham Co., Jesse (spelled Jessee on this one) is listed with wife Nancy, age 37, and six children. On the 1880 census, Jesse is listed with wife Narcissa, age 49, and four children. They are not to be found on the 1900 census, so I'm assuming they are dead by then. The first four children were born before Nancy and Jesse married, so they must belong to whoever N. is. Nancy had only two children apparently. Narcissa had another. The death certificate of Lydia SIMMONS, Jesse's daughter (by date apparently by Nancy), lists Narcissa MCCORMACK as her mother, born in IL. So, I am looking for info on who N., Jesse's first wife, is. I am looking for when Nancy SANDERS died. And I am looking for when Narcissa MCCORMACK married Jesse and when they both died. The first two census are from Ashland City. The 1880 is Robertson Co., Civ. Dist. No. 6. Any help getting this sorted out appreciated.

 SHIVERS

Jeannette Scott

I am looking for burial (or other) information for Ralph and Mary L. Simpson Shivers found on the 1880 census in Cheatham Co., TN. They married in Cheatham Co. on April 30th 1872. Mary does not appear on the 1880 census with Ralph. Ralph Shiver's 1880 and other census shows that he was born around 1796-1800 in North Carolina. Mary was born in Kentucky around 1828.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

BERRY, EDGINS

Janet (Berry) Brown

I noticed there were some EDGINS in Cheatham county, Tennessee in 1870. I am in search of parents and siblings of my ggrandmother Martha Mattie EDGIN, AGENT, EDGEN, EGINE. There has been many different spellings of her last name. I do not know where she resided before 1900. The info I have is she was born April 1863 in Tenn., according to the 1900 Hickman Co. TN census. She married Jefferson BERRY on Aug 23, 1884 in Centerville, Hickman Co. TN, according to the Tennessee State Marriages 1780-2002. The marriage bond was also signed by an S E EGINE. Jefferson was born 1860-1862, Missouri or TN.

However, on the 1900 Hickman Co, TN census it states Matties husband as Thom BERRY, born 1850 in Missouri, and they had been married 16 years (1884). The same year as Jefferson & Mattie. I am pretty sure this is my Martha Mattie, because my grandfather Wesley was just 6 weeks old on this census, along with his siblings. Wesleys father is stated as born in TN. My father Jeff, said Wesleys father was Jeff and mother was Martha. Also, Jefferson was listed on the same census, sheet 11B, living with parents and Thom & Mattie were on sheet 12A. I have not figured this out.

If anyone has any info on Martha Mattie, Jefferson & Thom BERRY, I would like to hear from you.

Thank You! Janet (Berry) Brown

CLEMONS, FREAD
Sharon Alsip
I am looking for help in finding places and people in Cheatham County.  If my information is correct my grandmother was born in Cheatham County on December 8, 1893.  Her name was Mattie (possibly Martha) Clemons.  My mother spoke of a small town named Neptune which I think no longer exists.  She mentioned that an uncle was postmaster of this small town at one time.  My grandmother was married in Ashland City on October 1, 1912 to Edward Fread.  I have been unable to find any information on-line but hope to find more on a visit to the Ashland City library or Court House.  Other names that Mother mentioned were Cora Robertson--my grandfather's first wife and possibly a sister to Mattie.  She passsed away in the early 1900's, I think.  A Walt Clemons was mentioned also.  Mother nevered talked much about her family and she passed away a few years ago and I know no one else to ask.  I now live in the Paris, TN area.

YOUNG
Marianne Jacobson Young
I am researching an elusive ancestor named JOHN  GEORGE YOUNG
John was born March 4 1850 near Ashland, Tn.  I have no idea what county it was then, according to family history (his daughter in law, now deceased), his family had a "plantation" near Ashland.  On this plantation they made chairs, with forced labor.  She said that he told her he had a sister, but she got married and he lost track of her.  He had also told her that he "didn't like what was going on down there so he left"  I am unsure of timing of when he left, but he married in Ks in 1877 and was living in Ill in the 1880 Census, near another Young family (?related?, this family had a grandfather living with them listed as Gesthom).  John and his wife only had 2 children, only 1 survived to adulthood, he died in KS in the late 30's.  On his death certificate his father is listed as "Frank Young"
John Young played the fiddle and drew well in a calligraphy style.
I would appreciate any assistance that I could get on this elusive relative, I am to the point of thinking this is not his real name, just because I can't find anything on him!!
Thanking you in advance.

Davidson County pre-Civil War.  He was a Confederate spy during the war,
working up and down the central Tennessee/Kentucky corridor, and reporting
through COLEMAN'S SCOUTS to General Cheatham. Sam Davis was one of his
"boys," as was DeWitt Jobe.

I have all the during and post-C.W. information I need (I think), but would
like to know more about Henry B. SHAW's ancestry and his pre-C.W. War life...I think this man might be a relative.

Again, thanks for anything anyone can do to help.

I'm looking for information on my ggrandfather Goldie(Goley)Neal.  He was located in the 1920 Cheatham County, TN census.  The census indicated he was born in 1868.  His wife, Matilda had already passed away at the time of the census.  Their children were:  Roseye, Effie Ethyl, Luke, and Edith.  If you can help with any information or just point me in any direction in which to further my search I'd be really grateful.  I've ran into a huge roadblock and don't know how next to proceed.  These people and their closest relatives are all deceased and I have no way of getting any more leads.  Please let me know if you can help.

MADDOX, BREWSTER, SMITH

B. Brewster
I am seeking any information on Tom, Wash, and Hiram "Abner" SMITH. Abner married Annie BREWSTER in 1892 per Cheatham Co. marriage records. They had one son, Thomas Arthur born in 1893. Abner and Annie lived on a large farm (180 acres) near Cheap Hill, TN farming tobacco and cutting timber. Abner died of TB in about 1894 (burial place unknown) and they lost the mortgaged farm after his death. Annie was supposed to have stayed on in the area for 20 years working for a merchant in Cheap Hill and at "Hunter's Farm," a very large farm near Cheap Hill.
Annie had two other sons from her first marriage: Charles and William BREWSTER (twins born in 1887). She was married to a William E. BREWSTER.
Any information on any of the names mentioned would be appreciated. We are trying to piece together our family history and have little to go on - especially since this period of time corresponds so well to the destroyed census of 1890.

On the PARDUE side, collateral's are: Peggy and nameless twin brothers, one who lived in Tuscaloosa, AL and the other who had/died from tuberculosis. One/both served in the Philippines. Glad for any/all info. :)

JACKSON, HILAND ,HYLAND, HIGHLAND

Jim Havron
My gggrandfather was Mathew Morris HILAND (various spellings, even on the same documents) son of G. W. HILAND and Martha A. Morris HILAND. He married Louisa A. JACKSON in 1869. A family bible copied by the WPA shows the birth of my ggreat aunt about a year later and my ggrand mother two years after that but records the mother as Matilda A. Hiland. Mathew had a sister named Matilda so this is probably the source of error. Both Mathew and Louise disappear at this time and the children are living with their grandmother at the next Census. Goodspeeds history of Cheatham and Dickson Counties says that Mathew went to Texas in 1872 and then either died there or returned and died soon thereafter. Nothing is said of Louisa. At the time of their marriage they would have lived very close to the Dickson - Cheatham County line. G. W. and his family held land along Turnipseed Creek and around Petway. There was a Jackson family in the Census' taken in that area around then but I didn't find Louisa.

GARLAND, REEVES, STOVER

George Cunningham
I am researching my ggggrandparents, John STOVER (born 1793) and Kitty Garland (born 1798).  They were married in Davidson County in 1817.  Kitty's parents were Elisha GARLAND (born 1763) and Lucy REEVES (born 1764).  These families lived, I think, in the area around Davidson and Cheatham Counties.  I would very much appreciate any information that anyone might have on these people.  Thank you.

WILLIAMS, HOOPER, HOLLIS, PARDUE

Joyce Cooper
My husbands grandmother, Mattie May WILLIAMS was born in Nashville (?) 16 May 1889 and died in Clarksville, TN in May of 1915.  She married Marvin Stover Cooper on 9 August 1910 in Nashville.  The wedding invitation came from her mother, Mrs. P.C. WILLIAMS.  I have found a Presley C. WILLIAMS who may have been Mattie May's father.  He was born 22 September 1861 in Cheatham Co., TN and died 19 February 1910, just a few months before the wedding.  One record lists Presley C. WILLIAM's wife as Margaret HOOPER HOLLIS.  Other records have her married to Riley PARDUE.  How does the name HOOPER relate?  Can someone shed some light on this family? Thank you.
