Typed information on the Chatata Valley Farm map (source unidentified):
Detail from a modern-day map of rural area northeast of Cleveland in Bradley County, Tennessee.
Wesley and Nancy Simmons probably lived somewhere near the center of this map during their brief time there in the mid-1830’s.
The upper arrow shows the location of the New Friendship Baptist Church, which was established in 1835 on land owned by John W. Simmons’ uncle, Isham Simmons (1806-1852). John W. Simmons’ grandmother, Phoebe (Clark) Simmons, was one of the church’s charter members.
The lower arrow shows the location of Taylor’s Cemetery, where John W. Simmons’ grandfather, John Simmons (c1778-<1845) almost certainly lies buried in an unmarked grave.
