In Response To: John Harrison Robertson (Kay Marshall White)
Hello Kay: Would you by any chance be related to Walter Marshall, Willie Robertson Marshall or Leonard “Jake” Marshall? I’m distantly related to the Robertson line through Humphries / Million/ Hilliard and Alexander families. Unfortunately, I don’t have information on John Harrison Robertson’s father, but I might have info you don’t and vice versa. Drop me a line if this relates to your family tree(s). Sandy

John Robinson
Posted By: Steve Robinson <steve [at] srr2 [dot] com>
Date: Saturday, 21 June 2003, at 8:58 a.m.
My John Wesley Robinson was born in either 1812 or 1809!
One census shows his age that would place his birth in 1809. His tombstone shows October 1, 1812, and his death on March 9, 1884. His wife, Nancy Copeland Robinson was born September 29, 1822 and died on July 10, 1867. Both of them are buried in the Lebanon Church Cemetery in Bradley County Tennessee just south of Cleveland and north east of Chattanooga along with one other member of the family, Mary A Robinson born October 16, 1845 and died October 29, 1906.
I believe the census records to support theory that this is a daughter, though one of the sons, married a Mary that could be this same one. This is still an unknown.
There are two, possibly three other graves that separate John Wesley’s grave from his wife’s grave that are unmarked. These could be (and most likely are) other Robinson children. It is unknown whether these were stillborn or some of the children that we are looking for.
We know that Robert Alexander Robinson (my paternal ggfather) is buried in Walker County GA, that John Wesley Robinson (one of the sons, named for his father, and brother to Robert Alexander) is buried in Chattooga County GA and that yet a third son Hiram D. is buried in Box, Oklahoma Just south of Oklahoma City.
The whereabouts of William and James are unknown to us as are the other daughters, Caroline, Sarah, Emaline, Eliza, Elizabeth. Of course, the daughters most probably married and changed their last names (makes them really difficult to trace.)
An interesting side note is that Nancy, buried in 1867, John Wesley buried in 1884 and Mary A buried in 1906, all have identical tombstones. It is extremely likely that all three of the tombstones were placed at the same time and the odds are quite good that this happened when Mary was buried in 1906. The stones match the style and material that was popular during that time.
I have a copy of a land grant where the elder John Wesley Robinson received 80 acres of land in 1841 in Bradley County TN, where I also found him in the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census. There is a Robinson in the 1840 census as well, but because of the way the 1840 census listed household members, it is impossible to tell if this is the same one, though the sized of the county and the low number of Robinsons in Bradley County would indicate that it probably is. The death certificates of some of the sons that we have found show that the father (John Wesley) was born in TN. Looking at his birth date(s), it would probably not have been in Bradley County, as it was not a part of the state of TN until 1836 when the Cherokees signed it over to the US and it officially became a part of TN. Could he possibly the son of one of the three Robinson brother buried in the Steekee cemetery in Loudon TN? Possibly, but so far, we have not been able to make the link. I have lots more info, but this will give you a snapshot that might be helpful. Any help would be appreciated
William Frances Marion Rice

Looking for information on a William Francis Marion Rice who was living in Bradley County, TN as early as 1850. He appears on the census as a 29 year old married to 21 year-old Elizabeth. He is living besides a John and Tabitha Rice and 2 of his 4 children are named John and Tabitha, so John and Tabitha may be his parents. William Rice is in the 1910 Bradley census as a 96 year-old still living in the Cleveland area. He is my 3G-Grandfather. Thanks.

Charles, Powell Lee, Charlie O., Clatice A., W. J., T. J., Hannah, Dudley, Malinda, D. Harvey; Lucinda G. are most of the Harveys. I say “most, ” because there is one more listed in the index. When I went to that page, I found no Harvey, but I did find a Harney, so I think the “n” is just a mistake. If that is true, there is one more–Lois Katherine.

My gg grandparents, JESSE & MATILDA HARVEY MCKINNEY, daughter of Jonathan Harvey, were in Bradley Co. TN, in or around Clevelend in the early 1860’s and possible mid-60’s. I read somewhere that there is or was a MCKINNEY cemetery near Cleveland TN. Are there any cemetery books of this area available? I would like to find out MATILDA’s date of death and also if they left Bradley county before or after the Civil War, as Jesse is in the 1870 Carroll county AR census with the three youngest children and without Matilda. Lorie, I looked for a GALLOWAY family article in the Bradley Co. heritage book, but there is not one. The 1870 Bradley Co. census index lists only one GALLOWAY family, and the members (in alpha order) are Jefferson D., John C., Julia A. B., Marcus F., Rebecca, Thomas C., and William L. The 1880 census book lists one GALLAWAY family: John 61; Roseca 57; and William 17. I decided to check the 1860 census index to see if there were a GALLOWAY who could have been his father. No GALLOWAY by any spelling. Sorry I couldn’t help.

I am trying to locate information re: my great-grandfather, David Austin Galloway. He was born approximately 1866, somewhere in Tennessee. I managed to locate him in the city directories for Chattanooga, starting in 1900, but nothing before that. I did locate a D.A. Galloway on the tax lists for Bradley Co., but unsure if this is my great-grandfather. If anyone has info on him, please email me.

Any help at all will be very much appreciated, this is my gg grandparents and I am at a dead end in my family genealogy. Joshua was born in Tn about 1818, and his father came from one of the Carolina’s, I believe South Carolina. Lucinda was also born in Tn. Can anyone out there help me? Thanks Pat
