contributed by Jean Frazier Freshour (Jean, an extraordinary amateur researcher, died at age 98 in May, 2020)
Generation No. 1
1. Peter1 Ware1 was born Abt. 1720 in Virginia. He married Susannah Randle2,2 Bef. 1750 in Brunswick Co., Va., daughter of John Randle and Mary ?. She was born Abt. 1728 in Virginia, and died 13 March 1819 in Georgia.
Notes for Susannah Randle:
Susannah death is noted in the William Morgan Family Bible.
“She died in 98th or 99th year of her life.” This statement is probably in error, since it would indicated a birthdate of 1720, while information from other sources have her born about 1728.
Her parentage is establishedby a gift of love from John Randle to his daughter, Susannah Ware, of the plantation on which she lived with the 163 acres adjoining (Brunswick Co., Va. Deed Book 4, pg. 125). On Oct. 28, 1771 this same land is sold by Peter Ware and Susannah, his wife (Brunswick Co., Va., Deed Book 10, pg. 244)
Children of Peter Ware and Susannah Randle are:

Roland (sometimes spelled Rowland) fought in the Revolutionary War. I have copies of his war records and some court records. He lived to be 104 years.
“While a resident of Montgomory Co.,North Carolina, he enlisted in 1778 and served at various times until the close of the Revolution, amounting to about 12 months in all, as private with the North Carolina Troops under Capt. Ramles, and Buckner Kimbrell, Colonels Harris and Childs; he was in skirmishs with the British and the Tories on the east side of the Peedee River.
He was allowed pension on his application executed July 1,1844, at which time he was a resident of Warren County, Tennessee.
In 1857 he was living in McMinn County, Tennessee, and he died June 15, 1864
From a letter signed by Winfield Scott dated March 10, 1926
Military: “He served 12 months as a guard to guard the legislator of North Carolina “to keep off the Torys and Brittish.”
He said he entered active service in Northhampton, N.C. being drafted for 3 months, then marched on to Halifax in N.C.(not Va.)
and from there volunteered in the horse company of calvary, then called the light horse company. He then was in Montgomery Co., N.C. and went to Drowning Creek.
Residence: His pension papers indicate he lived in Warren Co.,Tn. before McMinn Co. and there are Warren Co. records.

Notes for Eliza Tourni Cuma Ware:
I have had e-mails that make me think that Eliza was Indian and adopted into this family. Cuma was her Indian tribe and Tourni was her last name.
Dear Jean,
I really don’t know anything about her except that her daughter was my great grandmother. She was supposed to be indian. The Tourni’s were a Quaker clan that adopted indian children and raised them as white. My great grandmother’s initials were MRT and she married Leonidus Walker (Lonnie). She is listed in the marriage records at the McMinn County courthouse. They butchered her name in the census and called her Tennie, but her real name was Tourni also. I am going to contact the Indian tribal information for Bradley county and see if I can find where Eliza Tourni Cuma was adopted. I think that Cuma would have been her Indian tribe and Tourni was probably her last name. I do have a picture of my great grandmother. She had two boys, Renso and Charles. I am not sure of the spelling of Renso, they called him Ren and I have no contact with his family although I am going to try. I will email you a listing as soon as I get it.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Janice Walker Fillmore

Notes for Francis Asbury Frazier:
Always called Frank.
Ruth Frazier remembered Grandpa Frazier as a very quiet person He wore a French goatee. I remember that my mother loved him very much and said he was a kind and gentle person. He had a teacher’s certificate from1876 to 1883. I have several letters written by Frank to Lou and one from Lou to Frank from their courting days in 1870’s. They seemed to have a very close relationship. Also, we have a poem written by Lou after Frank’s death.
His beautiful farm was in Michigan Avenue Community, Bradley County. In 1884 he was elected to fill out a half term as County Court Clerk and in 1886 he was reelected. He was a well respected farmer who took much interest in improvement of conditions for farmers. Through his efforts Farmers Cooperative Insurance was established.
I was born on his birthday , May 5, 1922. My mother was always sorry that he did not live to know that he had a grandchild sharing his birthday. He had died , January 17, 1921. He had gone to John Hopkins Hospital for treatment
near the end but they could not help him.

At Home Jan. 22nd 1875 My Dear Lou: As I think of going to town today; I deem it not improper to write you a few lines in order that your mind may be employed in meditating over the thoughts expressed by one that loves you because of your worthy principles. I have been on a visit to McMinn, got home yesterday enjoyed myself finely. I expect to go to Georgia tomorrow if everything goes well to see my sis down there. I wish you were here to go with me. I don’t know whether I will go to Dalton or not. I would like the very best kind to see Fronie and James. Lou, I would like finally to see you, and will see you soon if nothing happens to the contrary. I think I will be over to see you about Saturday week – that is the fifth Saturday or Sunday. Lou, if you get this in time I would like for you to answer it by that time so I will know for certain whether you will be home or not. As you have been talking of going off for a visit. If you had thought of going at that time let me know and I will not come then. As it is getting late, I will bring my remarks to a close for this time. I am in good health. Sam, Ma, and Ruth have had or are taking the mumps, the boys are about well -Ruth is just taking them. Dear Lou, think of your loved one often, remember you are not forgotten amid the gayest throng – with many, very many wishes for you happiness I will close, your very tender and affectionate love. F. A. Frazier

At Home Feb. 17th, 1875 Dear Lou I received your note yesterday evening. I did not have time before, I was somewhat surprised when I received it and saw the hand writer. I can only say in answer to Isham’s request; I would like most excellent well to go with him but I think it most impossible for many reasons, I am truly sorry that it is so; for the reason, as you said we have never taken a trip together and I don’t know when we will have another opportunity, but if I can’t go this time , I hope this will not be the last chance. Tell him that if it was in my power to go, I would come with pleasure, but if he wishes to go not to let me be the cause; but to go anyhow, maybe he will have a better chance at the girls. I would sign my reasons for not going, but I deem it unnecessary. I will tell him when I see him. Lou, I would be glad to say but I don’t know when I can come now, not before the first of the month anyhow. We have had a good deal of sickness in the family. Ruthie has not been able for duty in a month – she is now on the mend. Father has been confined to the house every since the day I went to your house, my health continues good. Lou, take care of yourself; many are sick and dying; for this reason I shall be glad to hear fromyou often. I will write you again before long. Very affectionately yours, F. A. Frazier (note added to letter) Saturday Feb. 19th Dear Lou: As I answered your note several days ago and haven’t had an opportunity of sending it to the office; I will add a little more and make it answer for another letter. I guess as it was raining all day yesterday you did not look for me, had the weather been good, I guess you would have been disappointed. I could not have gone anyway. Lou, I was down and spent a few hours with Uncle Herd R. and family another evening. They treated me very kind when I started Bas followed me out to the gate and said -Mr. F. you have not told me all about our folks on the creek, said he wanted to go with me when I went over again said as I was the eldest he would give me prefference (guess he will) should he go next time. With much love and affection for you I close, F.A.F. Lou, I guess I will come to see you about Saturday before the first Sunday in March. Please write to me between now and then if you had rather I would not come that soon tell me and I will put it off, I will have to come on Saturday or Sunday as I can’t loose the time during week days. Don’t you think I am about out of paper.

At Home August 6th,1875 My Dear Lou: It is in and through my most tender affections of my heart I attempt writing you this evening and I can hardly keep from feeling a dread that my letter will not render entire satisfaction, but Lou if it don’t in my heart I blame no one but myself for you have been true and offered fare in every respect. I stand pretty much where I did when we parted last. I have studied and restudied the matter but hard to come to the point where I look at it one way but on the other hand it looks like nonsence to be halting between two opinions, what is a few months either way? I opened school this week with 45 S. good many to come in next week but the trouble is I can’t find out for certain how long the school will last. Mr. Henry said he did not think it would continue much over three months and if that be the case it would not be worth our while to settle near the school house. If we could get a house to live in but decided to give you the prefference if you will except as to the time three or four months, don’t amount to much anyway- very true I would rather my arrangements were made for another year but nevertheless thy will as well as mine be done. If it be your desire to marry soon I will try to make some arrangements to take care of you’ if not assure your folks we will be as little trouble as possible when we do get ready to be off so far as their affairs are concerned. I would not have them wait a minute on us. Lou, I wish I was with you, I could talk better perhaps than I can write (I don’t know either whether I could or not). I long for the time to come when this subject will be worked over no more and when we will dwell in love together, then I think I will be happy at your side. Contentment: O’ how sweet it would be. I hope I will experience it soon; may I not lose another year as I have the last but may the year to come, find us situated together is the earnest desire of your loving, Frank. Dear Lou, I hope you will pardon me if I have said anything contrary to thy will because nothing has been meant that way; but much to thee I owe for the kindness thou has shown toward me. I am going to town tomorrow before I hear from you. I would like to have a letter from you as soon next week as possible. Perhaps I can come over Saturday week or tomorrow week if necessay. I don’t know anything to the contrary now. Mother and Ruth have been preparing for the meeting. Ruth says to tell you to come and stay awhile with her. I am well as usual this week. I remain as ever your affectionate lover. F. A. Frazier

At Home Aug. 21st 1775 My dearest Lou: According to promise, I will write you a few lines that you may know that I will survive. Nothing I believe very interesting to write you. I arrived safely at home about dust Sabboth eve without any rain on me. It seemed almost like a providential thing that the rain ceased that evening. Lou, I feel very much fatigued this morning after laboring all week with from 40 -50 chaps in the school house which was very tiresome. I was called on during the night last night to go for a doctor for two of my neighbor boys who are very poorly with fevor. After riding to Cleveland and back you can guess I don’t feel very gay this morning. But Lou, while such is the case you know I have always complied with my promises when I tell you I’ll do anything so long as it is in my power I will do it. I hope that I will never be guilty of prevaricating, but ever be true to one I hold so dear. Lou, I often think of you, and with deep affections each meeting seems happier than the last, and each parting more painful. Time rapidly wings its flight, but never to fast can it move until thou art borne to my bosom. Until that happy day, and after it may all love, joy, and peace be thine is the sincere wish of your very humble and affectionate Frank. P.S. Lou I thought I was done writing but I have thought of something more. Especially for Fannie, tell her that Mr. Moore has returned home. Visited my school yesterday – said he would like very much to go to Candy Creek, asked me when I was going over and so on – Ruth is fixing to go to Georgia with sister to stay awhile, she and I calculate on going to Burkets tomorrow to a meeting. I wish you and I. B. would come over there. Lou, you must excuse my pencil scribling. Pa spilt all my ink last night and it is the best I can do at this time. Don’t know when I will be over again would like to come before all of the peaches are gone. I will hope to hear from you immediately if not sooner, please Lou, do not disappoint me. Yours Truely—-

Candy Creek, Tennessee Sept. 18/1875 Dear Frank- I received your apprecative missive some two hours ago. Brother told me what you said today. I don’t know what to say in answer to your intergations as to renting at Uncle S. unless it be as of old. It’s as you think best I am not going to complain when you do the best you can. One thing certain we don’t like we will not be bound to stay always. But if I know anything of the house it will need repair. As to settling near relatives, I don’t care much about it, no to be candid. Yet I will never throw a single straw in your way if I know it. If you think it best – all well. I can stay if only you are there. Where you are to sympathize with me I can, I will try to be content. I do not wish to be dictatorial in the least. So do dear Frank as you think best – for yourself & Lou, I think will not complain. What is best for you is as I consider for me. When you have made a decision be prompt to- let – me know what it is. I heard this week that you had ken the Sprigg’s place. I did not know whether it was so or not till your letter came this evening- I was sorry to hear that you were not well. Frank, you don’t know how glad I will be when you get out of that school room. I hope that I will be better than I now am. I went to Mr. Lawson’s today. I am so tired tonight I can scarcely sit-up to write. It was weaving Friday but I had to give up the attempt- about two hours by sun. First time I ever had weaving to affect my breath and could scarcely breathe for twenty-four hours without pain. Maybe it will get better now. I feel better than yesterday, some. I thought that it would be better for me to be in company than not- is the reason I went to Mr. L’s today. I want to see you Frank. I have never known trouble till of late. You may not understand why so but I know it’s that way. My heart has been wrung with grief. I have often thought that I cannot bear it alone. You may think it weakness yet I can’t avoid it. Soon I hope it will be ended as to an addition yet it’s pangs will ever remain in my bosom. This only causes me to cling closer to the one I have selected of all others I think most sure to make me happy in this life. Come over whether F. comes or not- she will come if nothing happens more than we know now–Excuse this would be letter for I will have to close for tonight – it is late and a big days work before me tomorrow. So with much love to you I say Goodnight, Lou Monday Morning September 20th 1875 Frank, I have been thinking about what Brother said If we are going to Uncle’s I say go- if Uncle will give you a chance that will pay you it may be that he would let me stay till you would have time to do better. Then I would like to be near sister Susie. I have always been independent of my Chatata relatives and it will remain so. You know how I hold my head it will still be up for I know some of them don’t like me. And I am not one inch behind them. Your Uncle seemed to enjoy his visit yesterday- As I was getting on my horse he chucked a letter at me- We will enjoy this week if I keep feeling as well as I do this morning. Hope to see you soon, was glad to hear from Sallie, Your affectionate Lou J.
————————————————————————- ————— The article that she wrote after the death of Grandpa and the letters written during their courtship reveal much about the close relationship of this couple. The following passage was found by Grandma bed, written in her handwriting, after Grandpa’s death. Did she copy it or did she write it herself?
“Death crossed over our threshold and left the voice of our loved one dumb. Our friends clasp our hands and try to say words that will soothe our hearts that are stricken numb. Speech seems so vain when sorrow is at its peak. Words are such little things. So sadly they fail in the deep moments of sorrow the darkening mystery of death. Yet there are words that console and save, words associated with love, grief, and hope, and thoughts of God. (The coward in us whispers and we shed many a tear.) Though the home life is endowed with memories sweet, we dread the very silence of the place. There we catch ourselves listening for the call to service to help in his weakness, in the silent hours of the night for the breathing to know that he slept or was only keeping still so that we might not be distrubed. He was so intimately connected with every tiny affair of the daily living. His strong personality raised all to a high level and quickened the lives of all around him and his presence surely filled in and rounded out our home. At times I feel as though the world had stopped moving and that I was never to feel it go again.”

Notes for Frances Lutetia Julian:
Name sometimes spelled Lutecia. Always called Lou.
I remember Grandma Frazier as being a pretty lady. Usually sitting by the fire or on the porch in the summertime, sewing or reading. I think that I was a little in awe of her. I remember her having long conversations with my father when we went there. I don’t remember her ever going anywhere. Of course, when I knew her it was in her later years, and maybe that is what you did at that age at that time of life. Grandma told her children, after they were grown, that if they wanted a second name they could use her maiden name, Julian (she would be right up to date). Grandma talked politics and international affairs with intelligence and interest. Ruth Frazier remembered many family reunions in the big yard at the farm in Bradley County.

Notes for Maude Julian Frazier:
Aunt Maude never married. She was the only daughter and as many daughters of her time she stayed at home and cared for her parents. I remember going there as a child and she would takes us out to see the chickens; she seemed to always be trying out another breed. She was an attractive lady with a beautiful smile. She almost always cooked country ham for breakfast.
(a letter written by Maude to her parents while she was visiting relatives in Texas)
Abilene, Texas May 3, 1904 Dear Papa and Mamma: I suspose that by this time you know that I am at Uncle Henegar’s. Lillie came home Sat. and staid until Sunday afternoon. I have seen all of the folks but Pearl and her babies and Aunt Addie. Charlie and his family have moved back here so they are all here in a bunch – not more than three miles apart.
Now I am going to tell you something. It rained a shower here last night- the first for seven months. What do you think of that? Uncle has not planted a grain of anything and many people are hauling water five miles and driving stock many miles to water. You never saw grass any deader in Aug. or in the dead of winter for that matter in Tennessee. They will say that they never saw it so dry but once before since they have been in Texas.
Taking everything into consideration I have seen nothing superior to Tenn.. Yet the best homes in the country here would seem common there and I have been no place yet where they fare better than we do at home. Everyone treats me royally here. Indeed, they hardily allow me to get myself a drink of water.
I have had no mail since I came here for I had my mail sent to Caps and they have quit going there for mail since that law was passed that the Star Route carriers could distribute mails along their route. So don’t forget to write me to Abilene in care of Uncle as he went and had my name registered with his so that mail would be sent.
How is the garden and crops? I am well and hearty but just about as lazy as you can imagine. I will go to Merkle and spend two or three days at the close of the school. Write me often as you can with all of the news.
Your Loving daughter, Maude Frazier

176. Alva Julian6 Frazier (Francis Asbury5, Nancy Ruth4 Ware, Allen3, Roland B.2, Peter1)44 was born 25 September 1879 in Bradley County, Tennessee, and died 23 May 1932 in Lenoir City, Tennessee. He married Nellie Agnes Whittle44 04 December 1904 in Knoxville, Tennessee, daughter of Ranson Whittle and Sarah Byington. She was born 18 January 1882 in Knoxville, Tennessee, and died 11 June 1964 in Lenoir City, Tennessee.
Notes for Alva Julian Frazier:
My father grew up on a farm and was never happy living in the city. He came to Knoxville as a young man to study agriculture at the University of Tennessee. He lived with his Uncle Tom while attending school. It was during this time that he met a young lady, Nell Whittle. They were married 12/04/1904.
They lived in Cleveland, Tennessee during the early years of their marriage. Their first child was still born. They lived in Chattanooga for a while, but in 1910, they were listed in the Knoxville City Directory. By this time they had two sons, Whittle and Francis. Francis died with colic just before he was two years old. My mother was very ill with typhoid fever, and my father had surgery for a ruptured appendix. These were hard times. By 1912 they had a grocery store and lived above the store on McCalla Avenue in Knoxville. He was good grocery man except for being too generous with credit. Mama always said he could not refuse credit to anyone who was hungry.
About 1917 or 1918 they realized a dream of Alva’s: they purchased a farm (200acres) near the junction of Highways 11 and 70 in the edge of Loudon County. They moved from Knoxville in a wagon, all day for twenty miles. My mother suffered from culture shock: the mud on her carpets, the farmers in overall at church etc I was still hearing about it years later. They had three sons at this time: Whittle, Julian, and Philip.
Alva continued to sell groceries, but now wholesale for someone else. He also tried to farm and garden on nights and Saturday, never Sunday, Sunday was for rest and church. He traveled all over middle East Tennessee calling on merchants who became lifetime friends. He wore out some of the earliest Model T Fords. An early treat I remember was going with him in the summer time and having a picnic lunch of cheese and crackers and soda pop.
We lived in a very old log house which had been rebuilt or restored several times. School conditions were very poor- no transportations with the nearest two room school about 3 miles away. In the first years, they moved to Lenoir City , during the school year(5 miles away) Later the boys rode our horse and family pet, red Prince to the two room school. (Prince roamed loose in our yard, sometimes with several kids on his back). One day, he headed for the back of the farm and while crossing Hwy # 11 was hit and killed by a Greyhound Bus. There were many tears shed for him. We never had another horse anything like him.
When I became school age in 1928, there was talk of moving back to town, but finally , we got a school bus actually it was a well filled station wagon.
About 1930 Alva opened a wholesale grocery in Lenoir City.( Remember this is the time of the terrible depression) remembering his history of trouble with giving credit too freely, he called it Spot Cash Grocery. He was just finishing a day there on May 23, 1932 when he fell on the sidewalk, dead with a massive heart attack, just 51 years old. (These many many years later I can still feel the pain of that time.) I was 10 years old. I remember the next days like an often played old movie.
Alva and Nell had a site picked out to build a new home. He was to never see the mortage paid off or the new home built.

Notes for Nellie Agnes Whittle:
She was called Nell. This was her preference so that is what we put on her gravestone.
My mother was a great storyteller and she often entertained us as children with stories of her childhood and growing up years. To me it always seemed to be a romantic time (gay nineties) with carriage and horses and beautiful dresses. She was a part of a prominent family and had advantages while growing up that many did not have. She attended Holbrook College at a time when many girls did not go on to school. She was a talented pianist. She played the piano for the neighborhood Baptist Church for many years even though she was a Methodist
She loved to sew and made all of her clothing and then later mine. She loved colors and could make her home look pretty with very little. She was a very good cook and passed on to me many of her cooking skills. The table had to be set properly and certain things had to be done in the proper way. She lived her victorian upbringing.
By the time I was born, seventh of eight children, she was worn out and ill most of the time.
After my father died (before Social Security), we had a hard time. It was 1932, the middle of the great depression. She managed with what little she had very well. She took the insurance money ($5000) and paid off the mortgage on the farm. A thousand dollars was put in the bank for emergencies: taxes or the occasional doctor bill.
During the 1940 and 50’s the farm was gradually sold off to pay hospital and doctor bills (in the years before Medicare) She was blind and ill for several years before she died at 82 years of age. For the last 32 years of her life, she continued to live on the farm where she had lived with my father. She refused to leave the place where she had lived in happier times.

She was born 09 September 1893 in Wisconsin, and died 04 April 1961 in Bradley County Tennessee(Fort Hill Cemetery ).
Notes for Eustis Julian Frazier:
Eustis taught in Bradley County school for about 40 years. He served for 12 years as Superintendent, 9 years as principal at Bradley, and was principal at Charleston, Tennessee before returning to Bradley again, where he was teaching mathematics at the time of his death.
Uncle Eustis and Aunt Lois lived near Grandma Frazier’s. I remember how much fun it was as a child to go from Grandma to their house to play. Rachel was near my age and we usually played dolls. About once or twice each year before my father died we would go to Cleveland and it was a long trip. I remember going at least once after we got an A model Ford, quite a step up from the T models. Uncle Eustis and family came every year before my fathers’ death to visit. These were good times for our family.
Notes for Lois Blondell Nichols:
I remember Aunt Lois as being very attractive and friendly. It seemed everyone loved her. She was a musician. I must have been the only brown eyed cousin among the Frazier cousins. She always mentioned my brown eyes. Most were blonds and red heads with blue eyes.

He married Cecile Whitworth 10 October 1911 in Bradley, County, Tennessee. She was born 26 December 1892, and died 11 October 1976 in Lantana, Florida.
Notes for Carlos Julian Frazier:
Carlos lived 95 1/2 years and was able to live in his own home till the end, only in bed the last week. He was a well known nurseryman in the Palm Beach area of Florida. He dealt with all kind of plants. His hobby was “podacarpus”; an ornamental shrub. He began planting the seed as a hobby; but it developed into a full time occupation. This family was known for their kind hospitality to everyone.
I remember only once when I was a child that Uncle Carlos and Aunt Cecile came to visit. Florida was along way from Tennessee. Corinne was a baby and Carl just a little boy. I felt as if I knew the girls because my mother had told me much about my cousins. She had known them while they still lived in Cleveland. Clarence and I went to see them once when we were in Miami
for a business trip. They were very gracious to us. Frances lived near and she came over to see us. We did not have much time since Clarence had to be back for meetings. I wish I had known them better.

Notes for Alva Whittle Frazier:
Whittle Frazier was a temperamental artist. He disliked the name Whittle and was called Fritz. He was a successful commercial artist. He did work for many national and local firms. He sketched the drawing and then ran many copies by screen process. This was one of the first ways to mass produce pictures for advertising.
He died 12/01/1976 just 3 months after the death of Stella. He had many interests and made friends easily. He was drafted for military service for World War 11 when he was 39 years old. He had difficulty adjusting to military life.
He loved music. For many years he played the banjo for an orchestra on the local radio station.
Notes for Stella Mae Weeden:
A very beautiful person, quiet where Fritz was talkative. Always thinking of others. She was very proud of her children. She came into our family when I was just 9 years old. She was so good to me, the sister I had never had. She made doll cloths for me. She is missed by us all.

He married Irene Phillips 08 April 1939 in Benton, Kentucky, daughter of Cleet Phillips and Clemmie. She was born 23 September 1913 in Benton, Kentucky, and died 10 March 1995 in Rolla, Missouri.
Notes for Murrell Julian Frazier:
Julian was the oldest at home when my father died. He was very good to my mother. He farmed those first years. He went to work for TVA when the first dam was built. He transferred to U. S. Geological Survey in Rolla, Missouri in 1949.
He retired after 36 years. He married Irene Phillips in 1939. This was probably one of the wisest things he ever did.
When our father died, Julian felt responsible for all of us. We all felt he was very bossy but we know now he was trying to replace the father we had lost.
Julian was an outdoor person. He loved to fish and hunt. He was probably one of the first environmentalist long before we even knew the word. He requested a closed casket service; so his children dressed him as he was most comfortable: his favorite shirt, his fishing hat.
Notes for Irene Phillips:
There is no way I could write all of the admiration and high esteem which my family felt and held for Irene. She was such a very special person. Her mother was hospitalized when she was just 2 years old and she was raised by her father and an Aunt. We always enjoyed her company and loved to go to visit her. She was the church pianist in the Baptist Church in Benton, Ky. when she and Julian met. She worked for the school system in Rolla for years after she raised her family. She was such a good cook and homemaker.
Children of Murrell Frazier and Irene Phillips are:

She was born 14 March 1929 in Laredo, Texas.
Notes for Philip Carlos Frazier:
Phil left Tennessee after World War11. He had spent some time in Texas during his service years. He liked the country; after traveling much of the western United States, he settled in San Antonio. He was a partner in a publishing company, which printed Bibles and sold them.
After his retirement he and Mallie opened an antique business. Mallie had collected antiques for many years. Phil said there was no more room in the house; so they had to open the shop.
They have spent much time and enjoyment in collecting and selling antiques. I don’t think he will ever really retire, although ill health has slowed him down some.
He has a lot of rental property which also keeps him busy.
He served in WW2.

Notes for Jack David Frazier:
Jack is a veteran of World War 11. He served in the Pacific. He was an insurance adjuster for Retail Credit Co(now Equifax).
Jack is popular with people and has many friends. He loves to golf and to play all kinds of games. He belongs to the Methodist Church. In later years he has spent a lot of time camping. Jack has always been a lot of fun to be with; since he and I were the only ones in our family who stay in this area, we have spent a lot of time together. We miss him very much! (Jean)

She married Clarence Albert Freshour 05 January 1946 in Roane County, Tennessee, son of William Freshour and Lucy Ricker. He was born 03 March 1920 in Knox County, Tennessee.
Notes for Donna Jean Frazier:
(written by Clarence Freshour)
Jean Frazier Freshour was the daughter of well educated parents(for their time). She was the only girl in a family with five brothers. Her father died when she was ten years old during the great depression of 1930’s. Since her mother was ill much of the time, she learned early how to clean, cook and sew. She remained in school sometimes when this was a hardship. She always loved school, reading and learning. She made good grades and was a good student. She graduated second in her high school class. Her best friend was first.
Jean was an inspiration to me to get a good education and we graduated from high school the same year. (I had had to stay out and work on the farm) She always insisted on doing only her best. Sometimes this extended to me and helping me with homework etc. Our families lived in the same community and we went to the same church. We were high school sweethearts and she was the only girl I ever loved. World War 11 intervened. She worked in a war plant while I served my country for 4 years.
After the children were in school she worked in the office of our church for many years. Later she worked in bookkeeping for Roden Electrical Supply where I worked..
She was always a hard worker and interested in many things: crafts and arts, a prodigious reader, a gardener always. ( She would have been a farmer had it been possible)) We have a large wildflower garden with many native plants. Jean was never happier than digging in the dirt and planting a new plant. We’ve always had a large vegetable garden and fruit trees. We have always canned and frozen much of our food.
Jean has always been very involved in her church. Our church has always been the center of our lives. Many of our friends are the people we met at church. We continue to be very active and attend all services.
Jean is a good wife, a good mother to our son, Stephen and daughter, Donna. Donna Jean is named for my Donna Jean. She is a good grandmother to our two grandsons. Clarence A. Freshour November 14, 1998
Notes for Clarence Albert Freshour:
Clarence, went back to U. T, when he returned from serving 4 years in World War 11. He was a medic with the Air Force. He served in North Africa, France, and Germany. He was overseas almost 3 years. Had the war not ended he would have probably gone to serve in the Pacific. I think the greatest day in our lives was the day, he returned to Tennessee. We had wanted to get married before he shipped out, but my mother was so against my marrying a soldier who was leaving. So we waited and waited. We were married soon after he came home. We have had almost 53 happy years together(1998).
About the time Stephen was born, he took a job with Roden Electric Supply. He worked there for about 40 years, the last 20 as Vice-President. Roden’s had grown into a large company with many branches. He retired in 1985.
Since that time , we have enjoyed doing so many things that we had never had time to do with both of us working. We’ve traveled. We tended our wildflower garden and worked in the yard. We are very active in our church. We have had time to read and the library is a regular trip for us. We have spent a lot of time researching 8 families. Last fall grandson Stephen fixed us up with a computer and since then I have been entering tons of information into this computer. How this world has changed in my 76 years.
Clarence is a very quiet person with a quick wit. Many people including myself do not always know when he is joking or if he is serious. He has a strong religious faith. He is a very good husband and provider. His family has always been very important to him.(written in 1998)

He spends many hours working in his yard, building rock walls and making flower beds. He loves the outdoors. He lives on a plateau about twenty miles north of Tulsa where you can see for miles. He has three dogs.

A. Murray, nursery founder
by Peter Donald … Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
Allan Q. Murray, 93, founder of the Allan Murray Nursery in surburban Lake Worth, died Friday at Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton.
His family said he died of old age.
“Everything he did was for the family, by teaching and example,” said his son, Tom, on Friday.
Mr. Murray, a lifetime resident of Florida, was born in Lakeland on March 18,1905. As a boy, he learned to farm with his father while working in citrus groves.
He moved to West Palm Beach in 1922 and met his wife, Frances, three years later. “I had gone next door to borrow sugar, and there he was,” she said Friday. “I never saw a smile so sweet.”
In 1945, Mr. Murray bought his 20-acre farm on Military Trail.
Allan Murray Nursery was one of the first farms to sprout along a portion of the trail that became know as “nursery row.” While cultivating his first crops, Mr. Murray sold chickens and eggs, but eventually became known for his citrus, shade trees, hedges and ornamental plants.
When Florida Atlantic University was just an idea, Mr. Murray was one of its first contributors.
He leaves his wife of 67 years, and four children, Thomas and Donald, both of Boynton Beach; David of Lake Worth; and Kenneth of Alachua. He had 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. Monday at Scobee-Combs-Bowden Funeral Home in Boynton Beach, followed by a 3 p.m. funeral

Jean:
I wanted you to know that the hospice nurse was at Mom Beall’s house
yesterday (Sunday) and she she said that her body is beginning to
shut down. Everyone is with her. Mary Dee flew in last night. Carl and
Dorothea have been with her the last week and Preston drove in last
night. She received news last Monday that the Cancer was active in
her blood and after she heard that news she quickly declined the days
that followed. Her nurses and live-in companion (Agnus) have been
absolutely wonderful. Other than getting extremely hot once in awhile she is
comfortable.
I will e-mail when she has gone to be with God and Jesus Christ.
Beth Beall
(Tuesday 27 Nov.)
Mom Beall is still with us but her body is shutting down. She has had
wonderful responses to Frazier (her nurse says that she sees Frazier as
her continuum on this earth). She has also had wonderful responses to
anyone who wants to read the bible. She has multiple page markers in
her Bible. Jennifer will be here today at 3:00 p.m. She is
comfortable. She has called the children around twice to tell them
something but can’t get it out. Her nurse is wonderful.
I will keep in touch. Please e-mail everyone and let them know of her
condition. She will have a graveside service followed by a memorial
service out of Carroll-Gills United Methodist Church (the Church she
joined when Stevenson closed).
Beth
Jean:
I asked Mary Dee Jr. to e-mail these documents to me so that I could
send them on to you and you could disseminate. Mom’s death was peaceful
with Carl and Mary Dee by her side. Her last statement on Thursday was
” I will come. Let me come”.
She had a beautiful memorial service on Monday that lasted 1:45 minutes
because so many spoke regarding how Mom had impacted their life. It was
a wonderful testament to a great lady. Obviously, these days are hard
for us, but we will get through them. I am joyful that Mom is Heaven,
but is difficult not having her physically with us. The family will be
celebrating Christmas at her house.
Thank you for all of your prayers and thoughts.
Beth
We look forward to seeing the Frazier family members this summer.
Mary Dee Frazier Beall
September 13, 1914 – November 30, 2001
Mrs. Osborne Preston (Mary Dee Frazier) Beall, Sr., who lived in Stevenson for 64 years, died November 30, 2001, at age 87. The burial service will be at Druid Ridge Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on December 3, followed by an 11:00 a.m. memorial service at Stone Chapel United Methodist Church (Stone Chapel Lane, Pikesville, Maryland). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the United Methodist Board of Child Care, 3000 Gaither Road, Baltimore, MD 21244; or the American Cancer Society, 8219 Town Center Driver, Baltimore 21236-0025.
Born September 13, 1914 in Cleveland, TN, Mrs. Beall was the daughter of Carlos and Cecile Frazier. She grew up in West Palm Beach, where her family moved in 1925. After graduation from Palm Beach High School, she became first a dental assistant, then a companion to Mrs. Dora Thomas, widow of a Methodist minister in Baltimore and mother of John Charles Thomas, a baritone soloist with the Metropolitan Opera and star of stage and radio fame. She met Mr. Thomas while singing in the Romany Chorus, a group he organized for public performances in Palm Beach.
As companion to Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Beall moved to Towson in 1935, where she soon met and married Osborne Preston Beall, who was active in the Methodist Church. Mr. Beall had a Ford agency in Stevenson. Mrs. Beall maintained family traditions such as Thanksgiving in the Beall home in Stevenson for many years and the summer Beall reunion. The annual reunion met at her home for more than 55 years.
In the 1950’s, Mrs. Beall was active in the Parent-Teacher Association in Pikesville, organizing events for the school and serving as PTA president. She was also instrumental in bringing Community Concerts to Pikesville throughout the 1950s. She and Mr. Beall both participated in a drive to expand the old Pikesville Library, culminating in the dedication of a new Pikesville Memorial Library (which has since been replaced) on Reisterstown Road and Sudbrook Lane in 1951.
Early community activities included volunteer work for the Pikesville Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and for the Pikesville Red Cross and the Heart Fund. She became active in local and state Republican activities and organizations, serving as President of the Pikesville Federation of Republican Women for over 30 years, as well as president of the Maryland State Federation of Republican Women.
In 1967, Mrs. Beall went to Annapolis as social secretary to Mrs. Judy Agnew, wife of the newly elected governor of Maryland. She accompanied Mrs. Agnew to Washington when Mr. Agnew, chosen as the running mate of Richard Nixon, became Vice President in 1969. With Mrs. Agnew, she traveled over the United States and abroad to Thailand, Bali, Indonesia, Malaysia and Afghanistan.
Widowed in 1977, Mrs. Beall was a leader in her church, Stevenson United Methodist. At its closing in 1999, she joined Carroll’s-Gill’s United Methodist Church, on Chestnut Ridge, of which was she was a member until the time of her death.
Mrs. Beall is survived by two sons, Osborne Preston Beall, Jr. (wife Margaret) and Carl Frazier Beall (wife Elizabeth), both of Stevenson; and two daughters, Dorothea Beall Lankford (husband Norris), Brooklandville and Mary Dee Beall, Jr., (husband Robert Frank), San Francisco; three grandchildren, Jennifer Kirsten Beall, Chicago, Carl Kristofer Beall, and Mary Frazier Beall, both of Stevenson; two step-granddaughters, Elizabeth Copeland, Atlanta, and Meredith Copeland, San Francisco; and two step-great-grandchildren, Spencer and Emily Copeland, Atlanta. She is also survived by three sisters, Frances Murray, Rebecca Peterson and Corinne Burdick, all of the West Palm Beach area, and one brother, Carl Frazier, Orlando; two aunts and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary Dee Frazier Beall
September 13, 1914 – November 30, 2001
Mary Dee F. Beall, a Republican women’s leader who became social secretary to Judy Agnew, wife of former Maryland governor and vice president Spiro T. Agnew, died of cancer Friday at her Stevenson home. She was 87.
From 1967 to 1973, she handled correspondence and arranged scheduling for Mrs. Agnew, whose husband’s selection as running mate by Richard M. Nixon in the 1968 presidential election placed the Maryland governor into the national spotlight.
In a 1970 interview, Mrs. Beall recalled that she was at her desk at the governor’s mansion in Annapolis when Mrs. Agnew called from the 1968 Republican National Convention in Miami.
“Mary Dee, are you sitting down?” Mrs. Agnew told her. “It’s Spiro.”
Mrs. Beall met the Agnews in the 1950s, when “Ted” Agnew was a Baltimore County precinct worker and she was president of the Pikesville Federation of Republican Women and vice chairwoman of the GOP state central committee.
In 1962, the year Mr. Agnew was elected Baltimore County executive, Mrs. Beall served a term as president of the Maryland Federation of Republican Women. She also worked to expand the Pikesville public library and brought community concerts to Pikesville.
Mrs. Agnew asked her to go to Annapolis as her social secretary, and to help with recognizing faces in the state capital as Mr. Agnew began his term as governor in 1967.
After the Nixon-Agnew ticket won the presidential election and the Agnews moved to quarters in the Sheraton Park Hotel in Northwest Washington, Mrs. Beall drove there weekdays and dealt with the bags of mail Mrs. Agnew received.
“She knew Republican circles, and she had a sense of the proper way to do things right,” said her daughter Mary Dee Beall of San Francisco.
She also accompanied Mrs. Agnew on a 1970 around-the-world goodwill mission aboard Air Force Two. On other trips she visited U.S. orphanages, women’s clubs and hospitals with Mrs. Agnew.
Born in Cleveland, Tenn., Mary Dee Frazier was raised in West Palm Beach, Fla., and was a graduate of Palm Beach High School. She grew up on an estate — owned by William J. McAneeny, a founder of the Hudson-Essex Motor Car Co. in Detroit — that was managed by her father. Family members said her exposure to the social life in Palm Beach provided good experience for her future role.
While in Florida she sang in a choral group, through which she met Metropolitan Opera baritone and Broadway singer John Charles Thomas. After working briefly as a dental assistant, she became social secretary and traveling companion to Towson resident Dorothea Thomas, the singer’s mother.
Shortly after moving to Baltimore County in the 1930s, she met and married Osborne Preston Beall Sr., a Ford dealership owner who died in 1977.
At home, Mrs. Beall was an accomplished hostess. “When friends would admire her home, she would tell people she furnished it from estate sales,” said daughter Dorothea Beall Langford of Brooklandville. “Her home was very important to her. She was generous with it, and her friends were always welcome.”
A memorial service was held Monday in Pikesville.
In addition to her daughters, she is survived by two sons, Osborne Preston Beall Jr. and Carl Frazier Beall, both of Stevenson; a brother, Carl Frazier of Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Frances Murray of Boynton Beach, Fla., Rebecca Peterson of Lake Worth, Fla., and Corinne Burdick of West Palm Beach; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Source: The Greeneville Sun

——————————————————————————–
Arthur S. Masker, president and CEO of Holston United Methodist Home for Children, has been named winner of the statewide Professional Advocacy Award by the Tennessee Conference on Social Welfare.
Masker was recognized with the award at the annual meeting of the conference in mid-April.
To win the award, an individual must have “demonstrated advocacy efforts and achievements far beyond a routine nature.”
Masker was singled out for his contributions that include having served as president of the Tennessee Conference on Social Welfare, president of the Tennessee Association of Childcare, and commissioner on the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth, an independent organization that monitors child and family well-being in the state.
Masker not only is active professionally on behalf of children but also is an advocate in his personal life. He is active in Boy Scouting and in his home church, Asbury United Methodist, of Greeneville.
Masker has led Holston Home and the state in creating a Special Needs Adoption program that has placed statewide several hundred children in permanent homes. As one of the participating agencies, last year Holston Home placed every child for which it had a referral through the program in a home.
The program for the awards ceremony noted, “Mr. Masker’s skill, dedication, advocacy and commitment to improving lives of youth and their families are to be commended. He is an outstanding advocate, and leaders and staff and those who serve with him count themselves privileged to have the opportunity to work with him and learn from him.”

Notes for James Leslie Frazier:
Hi Aunt Jean,
Yep, this is me, long lost son of Les and Sherrian, prodigal of the
Frazier clan! It has indeed been forever since we saw each other last,
but I still remember fondly that summer when I was a sixth grader and
got to go see all the Tennessee folks. I remember your back porch ( I
think maybe we broke your hammock?) and your iced tea strong with
lemonade and what seemed to me then a small forest with trails behind
your house. No telling how close those memories are to truth, but I am
fond of them nonetheless. I remember that you had Herman Wouk’s The
Winds of War on your bookshelves, too.
How are you these days? (10/10/2003)

They are now on their honeymoon and when they get back we will help them move to Rathdrum, Idaho where Jennifer has a high school chemistry teaching job this fall. Dana will work in a machine shop in nearby Spokane, Washington. And I get her bedroom for my genealogy room. You know me always thinking ahead to my next project!! We took 18 rolls of film in to be developed this morning. I will scan some pictures when we get them back and send them out to all of you. Hope this finds you all well and enjoying the summer.
