Teresa is looking for anything that will give her a clue to Chesley and Mahala Crisps marriage,birth,or death. Both born abt. 1805-1814 in N.C. and moved to Blount after 1830. He disappeared after 1860 and she does not know where he died. She believes Mahala died in Knoxville on 16 Feb.1892
Dr. Benjamin Emerson Washington was Blount County’s first African-American physician. A graduate of Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN, he practiced there his entire life – serving the Oldfield Community in Alcoa Hall. He was born in 1883 in Natchez, Mississippi and married wife Lula in 1918 in McMinnville, Warren

A big thanks to Caleb Glenn Teffeteller for this 1994 photo of Howard’s Chapel School. The school was torn down shortly after this photo. His mom attended the school in the mid-1940s. The school was located near Vonore, TN.
