INTRODUCTION

This project is intended to provide an online repository for obituaries that have appeared in Van Buren County's MOUNTAIN VIEW and other newspapers of the area including the SOUTHERN  STANDARD of Warren County and the SPARTA EXPOSITOR of White County.  We thank them for their courtesy in allowing us to reprint these obituaries.  Additionally, contributions may be made for obituaries that have appeared in other, now defunct, newspapers in or out of the area. If you have an old obituary that you would like to submit for this project, please see the CONTRIBUTIONS section below. We will consider contributions of obituaries from other old newspapers if those contributions pertain to Van Buren County residents.

Most of the archival copies of the SOUTHERN STANDARD and the SPARTA EXPOSITOR are available on microfilm from the Tennessee State Library and Archives in Nashville. Microfilms may be purchased from TSLA, 411 7th Avenue North, Nashville, TN 37219.

EXAMPLE

McGuire, Lois Delong  (1914 - 1999)      Lois Delong McGuire, 85, passed away June 18, 1999, at NHC of McMinnville.  McGuire was born May 10, 1914 in Van Buren County, the daughter of Jim Delong and Julie McGuire.  Services were Saturday, June 19, 1999, in the chapel of High Funeral with burial in the Long Cemetery.  Tim Long and Wally Seibers officiated.  Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, June and Joe Phillips of McMinnville; one granddaughter, Jocelyn Campbell of McMinnville; several nieces and nephews.  Her husband, Johnny Ray McGuire, preceded her in death.  High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
