LEXINGTON CEMETERY
(Southern/Black Section)West Slope, Southern/Black Section of Lexington Cemetery.
This area is full of unmarked graves.
The Southern/Black Section is the south end of the cemetery, separated at one time from the remainder by the NC&StL Railroad tracks. The southern section was omitted from the WPA record. In Hinson et al., the section begins in the second column on p. 462 and continues to the end of the listing on p. 467. James E. McDonald is buried in the southern section. The three individuals listed immediately prior to James E. McDonald, who seem to be represented by death dates read from temporary markers, are assumed to be buried in the southern section. David Donahue recorded the black section of Lexington Cemetery December 27, 1993 and March 4, 1994; updated it April 8, 1996; checked and updated it November 9, 16, 2001; and updated it October 4, 2003 and June 29, 2004. The list below includes people reported by Jonathan K. T. Smith to be buried here as known from their death certificates.
