Seeking information on any Wheatleys who might have been present in Danville c. 1850-1870, especially Jim Camp Wheatley or James Knox Polk Wheatley. An obit. for my gggf Alex Scott (Matt) Wheatley, lists his father as Jim Camp Wheatley, a prominent citizen of Danville, TN, JP, and state representative, and states he (Alex Scott) was born in Danville. His death certificate lists what looks like James Polk Wheatley (who was from Benton Co.) as his father. Any info MUCH appreciated! kengena@swbell.net

Henry BANE (b. 1829) and Robert BANE (b. 1832) both list Benton Co as their place of birth in their military records. Both are in the 1850 census of Benton. Henry died in Millen prison during the war. Robert survived the war but is not in 1860+ census. Does anyone have further information on either of these men? Thanks

MCKELVEY, SMITH posted by Connie R. Partin , at Email: crpartin@cafes.net , on Sunday, January 3, 1999

John Smith, born in Franklin County,Tennessee, about 1827, son of George and Hannah Barnes Smith, moved to Benton County sometime around 1860--give or take a year or so. Before John Smith moved to Benton County, he married Emelia McKelvey in Franklin County. John's family is shown on the 1870 Federal Census records of Benton County. His brother William joined him in Benton County later on. Franklin County Chancery Court records show John and William to have descendents in Benton County: Smith, McTeer, and Jenkins. Emelia McKelvey's family had some connection to the Ellis family of Benton County, formerly of Franklin County, and the Christian Christopher Smith line. I have reached a deadlock in tracing and finding some of my Smith ancestors. John and William Smith were the brothers of my great, great grandfather Benjamin Franklin Smith of Franklin County. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

MCGHEE posted by Bonnie Duff-Smith , at Email: DuffSmith@prodigy.net , on Thursday, January 7, 1999

I am seekiing help with a family, Hamilton McGhee and wife Nancy Duff McGhee who were served a summons in May 1858 in Benton Co. TN. This was in reference to an estate settlement in Monroe Co. TN, of John Duff's estate. In looking over your website, i see lots of volunteers with information, but don't see anything that would help me determine if there were children in this family, were they landowners, etc. They may have left Monroe co. Tn by 1850...date unknown this is a guess. Can you direct me to a source or individual who might have census and tax records, or other records you might suggest for searching?

Thank you so much. I am recovering from a heart attack and finishing my family genealogy is very important to me...

PRESSON posted by Norman I. Presson, Jr , at Email: nipjr@prysm.net , on Monday, January 25, 1999

James F. Nicholas Presson was born about 1846 in Benton County, Tennessee where he was living as late as 1870. He was married on 31 March 1867 to Ealy Matilda Helms, who was born about 1849 in Tennessee and who was living in 1870. Sons name, per "The Presson Family in the South" was J.L.A. born in Benton Co. in 1868. I believe J.L.A. to be James Thomas Moab Presson, for his father's name was Nick per his death certificate. James died in Chaffee, Scott Co., Missouri - Death Certificate No. 45475. DOB is listed as June 15, 1869. I believe that it could have been 1868 and he is the son of J.F.N.Presson. I need the birth certificates for both J.F.N.Presson and J.L.A. Presson. If you can not provide these records, please tell me how to order them . Thank you for your help. Regards, Norman I.
