R. W. Ayres, Jr. son of R. W. Ayres, Sr. The senior R. W. arrived in Benton County in the 1850's as a Methodist circuit rider, married Martha Ann Heggie and settled down. Organized and was elected Capt. of a home guard infantry unit during the Civil War, returned from captivity in a Fed. prison, and ran a successful tobacco farm and factory until his death in 1896.
