{"id":9326,"date":"2013-12-14T19:23:48","date_gmt":"2013-12-15T01:23:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/whos-who\/?p=9326"},"modified":"2023-06-15T21:39:30","modified_gmt":"2023-06-16T02:39:30","slug":"howse-hilary-ewing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tngenweb.org\/whos-who\/howse-hilary-ewing\/","title":{"rendered":"HOWSE, Hilary Ewing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>City<\/strong>: Nashville<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOWSE, Hilary Ewing<\/strong>, public official; born in Rutherford Co., Tenn., Jan. 25, 1866; reared on farm; at age of eighteen years he went to Nashville, and went to work in a mattress factory, and put in time on piecework at night to help support his younger brothers and sisters; later he became owner of the firm of Howse Bros., stockholder in the Broadway National Bank, stockholder in the Anchor Spring &amp; Bedding Co., and also a stockholder in the Nashville Interurban Railway; his political career began with his election from the First District, to the County Court where he served five years; he was elected to the State Senate in 1905, re-elected in 1909, he was afterwards elected Mayor of Nashville over strong opposition by a large majority; he is a member of Elks, Eagles, Knights of Pythias, Red Men, and Junior Order United American Mechanics; he has held many responsible positions in these orders and is now one of the trustees of the National Junior Orphans&#8217; Home, Tiffin, Ohio.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><i>Source: Who&#8217;s Who in Tennessee: A Biographical Reference Book of Notable Tennesseans of To-Day<\/i>.
