PERRY, John Wiley<\/b>, clergyman; born Cameron, Va., Feb. 8, 1866; English and Dutch descent; son of William Marshall and Elizabeth Ann (Sandridge) PERRY<\/b>; father’s occupation, farmer; paternal grandparents John T. and Mary (Henson) PERRY<\/b>, maternal grandparents Hastings M. and Catherine (Skard) SANDRIDGE<\/b>, educated in the country public and private schools and Vanderbilt University; graduated from latter, B. A. degree, June, 1891, D. D. was conferred by Emory and Henry College, Va., June, 1905; in early life worked on farm and taught one term in public school; married Clara Tucker, Oct. 19, 1893; member of Knights of Pythias and Alpha Tau Omega; former Chaplain State Penitentiary of Tenn., from June, 1887, to Nov., 1892; member of M. E. Church, South, and Holston Annual Conference; was member of the general conferences of 1906 and 1910; member of general board of missions M. E. Church, South, since 1906, and of its committee on estimates; secretary of Holston Conference Board of Missions since 1900; editor league column of Midland Methodist 1895-1897; he has written articles and pamphlets on many subjects of interest in church affairs; ordained to ministry in 1892, and served charges in Radford and Abingdon, Va., Chattanooga, Sweetwater, Knoxville and Morristown, Tenn.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
