J., Feb. 14, 1838; Scotch-Irish and English descent; son of<strong> Samuel<\/strong> and <strong>Rebecca (Scudder) GALLOWAY<\/strong>; father&#8217;s occupation, Presbyterian minister; paternal grandparents, <strong>Joseph<\/strong> and <strong>Mary (Bowman) GALLOWAY<\/strong>, maternal grandparents, <strong>Dr. Jacob<\/strong> and <strong>Hester Rule (McClain) SCUDDER<\/strong>; graduated from Princeton University, N. J.,\u00a0 A. B. 1858, A. M., 1861; began his business career as a school teacher; member of Co. &#8220;A&#8221; 4th Tenn. infantry regiment C. S. A. and participated in famous charge on McAllister&#8217;s battery Shiloh, Tenn., was wounded in that charge; attained the rank of First Lieutenant; married twice, first <strong>Mary Eliza TUCKER<\/strong>, May 14, 1867, second <strong>Mrs. Sarah (Tucker) COFFEE<\/strong>, Nov. 12, 1879; member Masons and Elks; Democrat; Justice of the Peace 1876-86; State Senator, 1883-85; Judge of the 2d Circuit Court Shelby Co., 1893-1905; Judge of the Probate Court from 1886 to present time; affiliates with Episcopal church.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>City:\u00a0 Memphis GALLOWAY, Jacob Scudder, lawyer; born near Morristown, N.
