C., Dec. 12, 1837; Scotch-Irish descent; son of <strong>Lemuel<\/strong> and <strong>Mary (Bonds) DILLARD<\/strong>; educated in the common schools of Cassville, Ga., and Newberry (S.C.) private schools; enlisted in Confederate army as private of 2d Miss. Regiment Co. \u201cG\u201d under Capt Hugh MILLER, served during war; was wounded and captured at Gettysburg, and spent eighteen months on Johnson\u2019s Island; attained rank as follows: 2d lieutenant Co. \u201cG\u201d 2d Miss., July, 1861, 1<sup>st<\/sup> lieutenant, same command, and commanded the company in battle of Gettysburg; in battles of Manassas, 1861, seven days fighting around Richmond, Seven Pines and other engagements; founder of the firm of T. B. Dillard &amp; Bro., cotton factors, Memphis, Sept., 1865, same was succeeded by Dillard &amp; Coffin in 1871, which was later incorporated as Dillon &amp; Coffin Co., 1900, which has continued to present date, former president of the above firm, one of the original incorporators of the Memphis Cotton Exchange in 1875, and was one of the prime movers in the agitation which secured better facilities for the handling and protection of the cotton business in Memphis, a few years ago; he also held a larger share of stock in the Merchants Cotton Press and Storage Co., and was director of same; also was a director of Mercantile Bank, Bank of Commerce &amp; Trust Co., and several other banking institutions, also business companies, now retired from active life, married twice, first <strong>Mary HARNSBERGER,<\/strong> May 7, 1868, second, <strong>Mrs. Anna ROSENPLAENTER<\/strong>, Jan. 9, 1900; member F. &amp; A.
