Sr."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>City: Memphis<\/p>\n<p><b>METCALF, Charles W., Sr.<\/b>, lawyer, born Jessamine Co., Ky., 1840; educated in the common schools of his native county and took a course at Millersburg (Ky.) College; after leaving college in 1861 he went to Memphis, where he enlisted in Capt. <b>Phil<\/b> <b>D. THOMPSON\u2019S<\/b> cavalry company, which was placed in Breckenridge\u2019s brigade; he served with his company until after the battle of Shiloh, being honorably discharged for physical disability near Tupelo, Miss.; at close of war he settled in Memphis, studied law with Kortrecht &amp; Craft, and was admitted to bar in 1866, since which time he has practiced his profession in that city; in 1874 he formed a partnership with <b>S.P. WALKER<\/b>, and it continued for nearly twenty-five years; the firm was for many years legal counsel for the city of Memphis; after the death of <b>Judge WALKER<\/b>, <b>Mr. METCALF<\/b> had his sons, <b>Charles W.<\/b> and <b>William P.
