COLLIER, William Armistead, <\/b>lawyer; born near Stanton, Tenn., Feb. 12, 1847; English descent; son of Thomas Barksdale<\/b> and Catherine Page (Nelson) COLLIER<\/b>; father\u2019s occupation, planter; paternal grandparents, Dabney<\/b> and Sallie (Barksdale)<\/b> COLLIER<\/b>, maternal grandparents, Norborne<\/b> and Lucy (Chiswell) NELSON<\/b>; educated Mt. Carmel, Tipton Co., Tenn., and other local schools, and Lebanon (Tenn.) Law School; began his business career as a planter; married Alice TREZEVANT<\/b>, Nov. 13, 1872; member Masons, Knights Templar 32d degree Scottish Rite, D. K. E. fraternity, Business Men\u2019s Club, Memphis Country Club, and Confederate Historical Association; vice-president Tenn. Historical Assn. of Nashville; he was an officer in the old Klu Klux Klan; joined Co. \u201cI\u201d first C. S. A. Cavalry under Gen. Joe WHEELER<\/b>, 1861-62, then private Co. \u201cB\u201d 7th<\/sup> Tenn. Cavalry (Forrest\u2019s Cavalry) C. S. A., attained the rank of Colonel of his command in 1864; upon organization of Gen. Forrest\u2019s Confederate Veterans since war he became Brig.-Gen commanding division of West Tenn.; Democrat; member of Legislature of Tenn., 1897; delegate to national democratic convention that nominated Grover Cleveland for president, 1892, chairman of notification committee and prepared notification address to Cleveland in N.
