NORRIS, Archibald Debow, <\/b>surveyor; born Smith county, Tenn., Dec. 29, 1838; Irish and French Huguenot descent; son of John Blackmore <\/b>and Margaret (Debow) NORRIS; <\/b>father\u2019s occupation farmer; paternal grandparents George<\/b> and Jane (Scobey) NORRIS<\/b>; maternal grandparents Archibald<\/b> and Susan (Balou) DEBOW<\/b>; educated Taylorsville, Tenn., and Meadville, Pa.; graduated from Alleghany College, Meadville, Pa., June 25, 1860; in early life engaged in farming and taught school; married Sarah Melissa BAIRD<\/b>, Dec. 25, 1866; member\u00a0 Vesper Lodge No. 248 F. & A. M.; has served as secretary and master of local lodge repeatedly; superintendent of public instruction for Wilson county, Tenn., 1873-1874; county surveyor, 1878-1882; and again in 1896-1899; representative, 1887-1899; served as private in Company \u201cK,\u201d Seventh Tenn., C. S. A., 1861-1862; captain, 1862 to close of war; captured at Petersburg, Va., April 2, 1865, and released from Johnson\u2019s Island, June 19, 1865; engaged in farming, banking and insurance business; member of M.
