MARTIN, Andrew Bennett, <\/b>lawyer; born Trousdale Ferry, Smith county, Tenn., Dec. 9, 1836; English and Irish descent; son of Matthew Moore<\/b> and Matilda (Crow) MARTIN<\/b>; father\u2019s occupation physician; paternal grandparents Peter <\/b>and Elizabeth (Henderson) MARTIN; <\/b>maternal parents James<\/b> and Jane (Porter) CROW<\/b>; educated at Lebanon, Tenn.; graduated Cumberland University, degree L.L. B. in 1858; degree of L.L. D. was conferred by Lincoln University in 1887; moved to Lebanon, Tenn., in 1852, a penniless lad; worked for a number of years as clerk in drug store, securing by his own efforts a fair education; after receiving degree of L.L. B. from Cumberland University he entered the practice of law as partner of Judge W. H. WILLIAMSON<\/b> at Lebanon, Tenn.; married twice, first Alice READ<\/b>, May 6, 1868; second Sue BRITTAIN<\/b>, June 6, 1893; member of Masons, K. T., Knights of Pythias and Knights of Honor; served as lieutenant Company \u201cH,\u201d Seventh Tenn. Infantry; major or adjutant on General Robert HATTON\u2019s staff; later on staff of General Geo. DIBREIL, and finally on staff of Joseph WHEELER; he has been commissioned as\u00a0 special judge several times; member of Legislature, 1871-1872; elector state at large on Hancock ticket; elected to board of trustees Cumberland University, 1866, and is at present president of same; has been professor of law Lebanon (Tenn.)
