Clinton, Virginia, and Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Va., graduating from the latter with B.A. degree, June, 1903; in early life was a farmer; took special courses of study in University of Chicago during summers of 1908-1909; taught in public schools of Rockingham Co., Va., for three years, in Branham &amp; Hughes School for Boys, Spring Hill, Tenn., 1903-1909, Principal of Robert Jones School, 1909-1910, co-Principal of same with Howard D.
