(Henning) HUGHES<\/strong>; father was a physician and farmer; paternal grandparents, <strong>Madison R. and Mary (Matthews) HUGHES<\/strong>, maternal grandparents, <strong>David and Martha (Hay) HENNING<\/strong>; educated in the common schools of Bedford Co., Tenn.; at the age of fifteen years during the civil war was entrusted with the conveyance of important papers to Confederate scouts; later ran away to join Gen. Forrest\u2019s command, but was arrested by Federal authorities and returned to his home; after the war traveled and lecturned on the battle of Gettysburg and other themes for about twelve years; subsequently engaged in farming, but has now retired; married <strong>Susie BRIGHT<\/strong> Dec 23, 1874; member of M. E. church, South; Sunday school superintendent; Knight of Pythias, A.O.U.W., and one time a Granger; has been Chancellor Commander of K.P.
