ALLEN, James<\/strong>, farmer and stock raiser; born near Greeneville, Tenn., March 27, 1855; Scotch-Irish descent; son of James and Laura M. (Brown) ALLEN<\/strong>; paternal grandparents Daniel and Mary (Baker) ALLEN<\/strong>; maternal grandparents Peter and Sarah (Foster) BROWN<\/strong>; educated at Morristown, Tenn., and Emory & Henry College, Va.; has been interested in farming and stock raising all of his life; married Elizabeth Jay BIRDWELL<\/strong> July 1, 1884; Democrat; Trustee of Greene Co., Tenn., from Sept. 1896 to Sept. 1909; Represented Greene Co., in the 53d and 54th<\/sup> General Assemblies of Tenn.; appointed Election Commissioner three times; at present Chairman of the Demo. Ex.
