BOYD, Ernest Houston<\/strong>, lawyer; born Cookeville, Tenn., Oct. 1, 1880 Scotch-Irish descent; son of Alvin W. and Mary Hettie (Goodpasture) BOYD<\/strong>; father\u2019s occupation, lawyer; paternal grandparents, Jefferson W. and Mary (Jared) BOYD<\/strong>, maternal grandparents, James McDonald and Ova (Arnold) GOODPASTURE<\/strong>; completed academic education, Cookeville Collegiate Institute, and Literary Department of Cumberland University, graduated Law Dept. same L.L.B. in 1911; licensed to practice in all of the courts of the state Feb. 2, 1911; devoted his early business life to educational work; Principal of the Algood (Tenn.) Public School for two years; Teacher in Cookeville (Tenn.) Public School for two years; was assistant clerk of the State Senate in 1907; Superintendent of Public Instruction of Putman Co. Tenn., for eight years; member of the Board of Visitors Howard Female College, Gallatin, Tenn.; President Putman Co. Tenn., County Teachers\u2019 Association, 1901-1911; President Putman Co., Sunday School Association, 1907-1910; has been active member of the State Public School Officers and the State Teachers\u2019 Associations for several years, serving as officer in both associations; nominated by acclamation for Representative Tenn., Gen. Assembly by the Putman County Democratic Legislative Convention Sept. 1910, later tendered his declination of the nomination to the County Democratic Committee; First Secretary Middle Tenn., Educational Association; member I. O. O. F. in all of its branches, very active and enthusiastic in lodge work; member of Board of Trustees Tenn. Odd Fellows Widows and Orphans Home at Clarksville, 1908-1909; Grand Patriarch, I. O. O. F. Tenn., 1908-1909; Grand Representative from Grand Encampment Tenn. I. O. O.
