ALEXANDER<\/b>, born May 19, 1815, is a son of <b>Andrew M. Sr<\/b>., and <b>Nancy (Doran) ALEXANDER<\/b>, who were born in Maryland and Virginia respectively. \u00a0The father was one of the pioneer settlers of the county, and was killed at New Orleans during the war of 1812, in which he served until his death in 1814. \u00a0The mother\u2019s death occurred in 1865. \u00a0<b>Andrew M.<\/b>\u2019s boyhood days were spent on the farm with his mother and in securing a limited education. \u00a0At the age of eighteen he engaged in the mercantile business with Gillman &amp; Moore, with whom he remained for two years. \u00a0He afterward clerked for J.L. Moore &amp; Co., remaining three years. \u00a0In the spring of 1883 he began farming close to his present place, and in 1850 purchased the farm where he now resides and where he has since been steadily engaged. \u00a0In 1855 he erected a grist-mill on his place which has a capacity of thirty barrels per day. \u00a0He controls the leading business in that line in his part of the county, and is doing well financially. \u00a0December 3, 1837, he wedded <b>Miss Rebecca WRIGHT<\/b>, a native of North Carolina. \u00a0Her death occurred November 1, 1882. \u00a0This marriage was without issues. \u00a0<b>Mr. ALEXANDER <\/b>is a Democrat and a leading member of the Presbyterian Church.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><em>Source:\u00a0History of Tennessee from the Earliest Time to the Present: Together with an Historical and a Biographical Sketch of Maury, Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson (Goodspeed, 1886).<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Andrew M.
