BROWN, James R.<\/strong>, Public Official; born May 20, 1856; son of John K.<\/strong> and Rebecca Jane (Woody) BROWN<\/strong>; father\u2019s occupation, farming and sheriff and jailer of Bradley Co., Tenn., before the Civil war; educated common schools of Bradley Co., Tenn.; reared and worked on a farm; elected Bailiff Ninth precinct of Bradley Co., Tenn., when he was 21 years of age; elected chief police of Cleveland, Tenn., 1899, re-elected in 1900, served two years in all; 1904 elected Justice of Peace Cleveland district to fill out unexpired term of his father (deceased); re-elected 1906 full term of six years; elected chairman of Bradley County court 1909; re-elected 1910, again in 1911; for eight years was election commissioner of Bradley Co., Tenn.; served on Board of Workhouse Commissioners for four years; was in the commission business in the city of Cleveland several years, and was also formerly engaged in the grain and feed business; Democrat; married Fannie PHILLIPS<\/strong> June 23, 1895; member Knights of Pythias and has filled every office in local lodge of same, also member of I. O. O. F., and served as treasurer of local lodge for several years; member M. E.
