ELDER, John Saunders<\/strong>, insurance man; born Clarksville, Tenn., Dec. 24, 1852; Scotch-Irish descent; son of Joshua and Malissa (Martin) ELDER<\/strong>; father\u2019s occupation, planter and banker; educated at Stewart college, Clarksville, Tenn., now the S. W. P. U., and at Bryant, Stratton & Dehan\u2019s Business College, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1873; embarked in the hardware business in 1874, junior member of firm Turnley & Elder, succeeded by John S. ELDER<\/strong>; in 1885 received two brothers into the firm of Elder Bros., sold out to M. W.
