Thomas BARTON<\/b> and Ethel (Rittenhouse) BARTON<\/b>, sister of David RITTENHOUSE<\/b>; educated at Shenandoah Valley Academy University of Va., and Johns Hopkins University; graduated from University of Va., B. A., 1883, Ph. D., 1885; entered educational work in early life; taught Ellerslie School (private) Va., 1881-1882, professor of mathematics, Emory & Henry College, Va., 1885-1893; fellow by courtesy Johns Hopkins University, 1893-1894, prof. of mathematics Va. A. & M. College, 1894-1895, prof. of mathematics and civil engineering University of the South, 1895-1908; at present he is prof. of mathematics University of the South; married Mary Millicent TIDBALL<\/b>, Dec. 28, 1897; member of E.
