WHITTHORNE, Washington Curran, attorney at law; born Columbia, Tenn., Oct. 18, 1865; Irish and Scotch descent; son of Washington Curran and Matilda Jane (Campbell) WHITTHORNE; father’s occupation, attorney at law, and was at one time member of the U. S. House of Representatives and U. S. Senate; paternal grandparents William Jarvis and Eliza Chapman (Wisener) WHITTHORNE, maternal grandparents Col. Robert and Elizabeth (Polk) CAMPBELL; educated at Webb’s school, Culeoka, Tenn., Centre College, Danville, Ky., and Georgetown University, D. C.; graduated from Centre College with degree of L. L. B. 1888; commenced the practice of law at Columbia, Tenn., in 1891; married Mary Roy COLE June 5, 1889; member Columbia, Tenn., lodge No. 31, A. F. and A. M., Nashville Commandery No. 1, Knights Templar, Trinity Consistory No. 2, Nashville, Tenn., A. A. S. R. (32d degree), Columbia, Tenn., lodge No. 686, B. P. O. E. (being P. D. D.) and Order of Cincinnati of N. C.; Democrat; County Attorney; vestryman of St. Peter’s Protestant Episcopal church, Columbia, Tenn.
