WATKINS, Edmund, lawyer; born Richmond Co., N. C., May 11, 1849; son of Jesse and Sarah Ann (Morgan) WATKINS; Welsh descent; educated in private school; graduated from University of Miss. 1871 A. B.; Cumberland University 1872 LL. B.; married Idelette DIAL Oct. 1875; member I. O. O. F., K. of P. and Royal Arcanum; mayor of Chattanooga 1897-99; member of Miss. Legistlature 1876-77; admitted to bar and commenced practice of law in Meridian, Miss., in 1872; moved to Chattanooga in 1888 and formed partnership with Judge Lewis SHEPHERD in 1889; in 1892 with W. H. BOYLE; later with T. C. LATIMORE; in 1899 with Judge F. M. THOMPSON and in 1907 W. H. WATKINS (son) was taken into the firm.
