TALLANT, Samuel Q., educator; born Eighth District James Co., Tenn., Feb. 20, 1882; Scotch-Irish descent; son of Frank C. and Myra E. (Jones) TALLANT; father’s occupation Postmaster Ooltewah, Tenn.; educated in the public schools of James Co., Tenn., and Carson and Newman College, graduated from the latter with B. A. degree in 1909; worked way through college under difficulties; entered educational work in early life; elected superintendent of public instruction for James Co. Tenn., while still in school, and was the leading influence in the establishment of James Co. High School, the first and only one in the County; married Ethel PHILLIPS, Dec. 29, 1909; Republican; member of Baptist church.
